Oh yeah, alcoholism and drug addiction are NOT moral failings; they are diseases. Ask the American Medical Association if you have any doubts.
The causes may be genetic or they may be brain chemistry related. God willing, this will be discovered in our lifetime because without a cause, there will be no cure except for the solution of 12 step programs which, when done thoroughly and honestly, work - one day at a time.
If Gregg were to have a sub par night on stage right now, I doubt anyone would bash him for it.
Well, good morning all. I'm off to the hospital for another herniated disc procedure after sneaking in a forbidden 1/2 cup of coffee. But I had to jump in cuz I see another sobriety battle going on!
Whoo hoo!
OK, so everybody (well, not everybody, but most) know I'm an alcoholic and on/ off drug addict who is now in AA and doing pretty well (but only an alcoholic would drink that cup of coffee when she's off to surgery). Once an alcoholic/addict, always an alcoholic/addict.
Now, I can't call anybody that - that label is THEIR business but Dickey's "using" does affect some shows. You take your chances when you buy a ticket. Either being an alcoholic or problem drinker brings on a whole slew of other behaviors, anger being one, but Dickey was an angry man since I first met the boy. You can't always blame bad behavior on substances.
This is not only a health issue but a lifestyle issue. We CANNOT label him. He just may be a "problem user". If he doesn't get his blow from one person, he's gonna get it from another. A few of us oldtimers got our "ins" to the backstage through various means and some of them were baggies with white powder and some of them were cute little 19 year old music lovers that made lifelong friends with a band member of member of the crew.
Stop arguing. It's none of our business. Defensiveness can portray a few things - maybe a problem you got yourself or maybe you've helped him cop a time or two. Give it a rest. Dickey's gonna do what Dickey's gonna do.
If you don't wanna take a chance that he might be a little too high at a show, DON'T BUY A TICKET. Those of us who know the deal, take those chances.
Some people can get high and enjoy themselves all their lives and some can't (I can't). Nobody can label somebody else. Now, please, everybody play nice and stop the name calling. If you're here, you're a fan of this great talent. Everyone has opinions but they don't warrant this back and forth bashing. We are ALL here for the same reason.
PEACH!!!!!!!
Anja and i went to our favourite "saloon" yesterday..
Its a nice place with nice, mostly sensible people.
Strange weather.Almost had a fight.
Well,nights right.
Peach and healingvibes to all in need
Capn, Nic said it best and I'm paraphrasing but the only time what I think matters to anybody but me is when I step in that voters booth. That's the only time I have a voice. You have your core beliefs and I respect that. So why on earth is it important to focus on what we disagree about? It makes no sense. We've got plenty in common and isn't it a lot more pleasant to focus on that stuff? I know the kind of guy you are - friend to many many good people and friend to me! THAT'S WHAT'S IMPORTANT! That would extend to if you're ever ramblin' around these parts, you've got a home at my place.....well, temporarily at least....
Ok, we both like it when Dickey has one of those really, really great shows.
:uhoh: I'm not sure. Only time will tell. So far, we haven't agreed on much:lol:.
Capn, that is just THE coolest thing Bro!!! Thank you for sharing that with us man. Good and kind people such as yourself, deserve good, kind, and cool things like that to happen to them. Man, that is just so nice.
Only fairly sober huh Amy:bash:. Again, we take the good, bad, whatever, warts and all. Kinda like a real fan should and would. :looney:Crazy huh? Give it a try.
BTW, thanks, pinto...
You also are a br'er in my book...
we may not see eye to eye politically and economically
but we still share
THE LOVE OF TRUE BROTHERHOOD
Dickey on the high seas without his own personal cap'n.. unheard of... Ahoy mates!! 12/01/11 can't wait! Learning to play You Don't Love Me yes I know!!!
"If you think I'll be your fool, you better be on your merry way"
me and Kach, gonna practice up
Ahh AmyRegan, you were never a thought in my mind...wow...I guess it is NEVER GONNA GET BETTER with you...I guess all those years of vocalization classes have done you well...alot of defensiveness, disappointment issues and anger for such a young person! I will remember you if you'd like and say a prayer that you find some love before life passes you by and smile for just one day! Are you not happy girlfriend or are you are a man in disguise because emotionally you do not respond like a real loving and nurturing woman...
Frank and I are friend soulmates for a long long time and he loves me for being Kimberly, something you will never know of...being friendly and gracious...Frank and I can handle a little disappointment between each other and at the end of the day we are still very close and that will never change...and the fact it bothers you amazes me...
I will have to meet you for myself to believe that there is such a down hearted young lady out there so mean, what did life do to you?!? Maybe see you in November for the NYC gig? One thing is good for you, this little ditty will probably inspire you to write more, dig a little deeper, it's all cool...
Moving forward, try a little kindness from the get go and you might find some peace of mind...
Rock on chickens! I love you guys and girls here! Oh yeah - Moongrass Girl! I saw your post just now and yes Florida tour is on!!! You should come on the Dickey tour on the Cruise in December..You can't leave me by myself, I need a partner in crime! Ow! Oww! Owww!
Great video Voador. I just watched his Live at the Albert Hall performance on ETV a week or two ago. Great musician.
Happy for you, Capn. You have been a friend and it came back around. You're a very good man.
It would be an HONOR to send Pedro's CD to Frankie... I will include a couple additional treats as well...
Today I received the Most Beautiful Gift I have ever received in My Entire Life... Bar NONE
Norton Buffalo's lovely widow sent me not One but THREE of his harmonicas, some Laminates and A handmade Leather Journal with a Buffalo delicately burned into the Cover.... I had to pull over and cry Joyfull tears for 10 minutes before I could even attempt to drive another mile.
I always wanted just one of his harmonicas to hold in my hand to add to my collection of memorabilia, but nevr felt like I even deserved to ask... for her to have sent THREE without my asking just shows why I hold this man and Lisa in such high regards... TWO SWEETER PEOPLE I have never met
LOVE TO ALL !!!
People Can You Feel It ?????
Don't worry Frankie, the Dickey friends, family and fans are not fighting honey. Just one or two people who walked into Dickey's front screen door without being polite and humble in one's home, and were judgementally wrong, out of line, rude and caustic. We all have opinions but at the end of the day hopefully one can put their head on the pillow knowing they have done good deeds and did not hurt anyone's feelings or hearts and loved all who we have come in touch with.
I for one had a great time last Monday and Tuesday evenings at City Winery...Frank Schiazza, it is a shame we didn't meet as you and I have been waiting years to catch up in person. All these years we have been corresponding, I thought you would have sent me an email you were finally coming to a Dickey show! I am highly surprised at your comments and your disappointment of the show. Somehow, I feel this loss that our friendship will never be the same, or may be it never was...the dreamer in me thought you were a musician in your heart and soul and was looking forward to introducing you to Dickey and Great Southern...please don't forget to keep us apprised of your schedule so I can check out your gig when you are in NYC area and post on your website.
As far as Dickey goes, no one is perfect all the time, missing a few notes from perfection, you have to be kidding me! A man that has suffered alot of loss of friends lately, Vassar Clements, Buddy (Twinkle's father), illnes of Dan Toler (Lou Gehrig's disease) and death of Frankie Toler, the tragic loss of Red Dog, Bruce Waibel, etc etc etc doens't have an emotional/physical effect on a man that is nearing 70 years old, damn Dickey has given the world, the human race, the gift of his songs that are forever emblazoned on our hearts as we cruise through life, be happy for the times we get to share music with our friends that influence how we live our daily lives...I know for me, Dickey's music had guided me through the good times and the bad times...times when love is unrequitted or at an end or times when you meet the love of your life and feel in love again, that's what Dickey's music does to me and get's me through this roller coaster life we live in...all I am saying is be happy you are alive and happy you get to experience it all...that what's Frankie who is fighting Afghanistan right NOW and I are saying, and for all the Debbie Downers, the ones trying to promote themselves or seeking negative attention, and they sure are good at it, the jealous and evil minded souls...go find love and set your soul free! I choose to live Life By the Drop as Stevie Ray Vaughn sang...
Sending love to Dickey and Great Southern, Crew and Families, thanks for the great music and good times YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW!
I still think Dickey is hot and I love him, always have since I met him in 1969. Love, Kimberly
Let's see if I have the same courtesy with my heartfelt statements as afforded by all here...
Hey Frankie. Thanks for stopping by. I will see what I can do about the CD for you. I am sure Cap'n can help you out with that request. Please let me know if there is anything else you need. Take care Brother and thanks for your Service!! Pam and I Love you Brother. Peach.
Hello all, thank you for all the great vibes that is helping me get through a the saga(that is the 'stan). things are hellish right now and this is the only place i want to turn to. makes me sad to see the board like this. you people need to stop and look at ur selfs. this is a happy place not a war zone. i see hatred and bad shit all the time, i know everyone on both site can get along. some times shows are perfect and some thimes they arent up to par but life goes on. there are other venues, i cant get on here much is there any way to end this. i realy like to say hi and have a good time here. if you dont like what i posted thats ok, im in the devils playground and sure as heck dont like it here but life goes on . any way, ide like a copy of pedros new cd if posible i can send money to whoever can fill this request. i hope to stop by here more often, but in a war zone its give and take. and im taking what i can get....... brother bootleg.
No doubt in my mind that he can still put on a remarkable performance Capn. Just hope I get the opportunity to see a few more.
I did a little you tube hopping after watching the Blue Sky video. I saw another video of Jessica from the same night, and while you couldn't hear the key's due to the poor audio on the video, Dickey did some pretty darn tastey work on the geetar:guitarist:.
I also noticed that it was the same night that he had a cut finger because he was wearing a band aid on his left ring finger on the Jessica video, from what I remember. Not trying to make excuses, just stating some facts.
Hope everybody had a good Labor Day weekend. Looks like more rain for the next week. Hope hurricane Katia stays the heck away.
Any reviews on the Dickey / BB King show?
I got ya captn, that girl is a winner,I don't think I've ever been to a performance of dickey's that was'nt great! It seems like a lot of people compare a live show to a studio recording,I just don't get it ! That show down in Tampa looks like it might be a good one! See ya there!
Go BUCKEYES!!!! I'm looking for good things with our new coach and new start.
Our fundrasier is not going well. Crowds are way down due mostly I think to weather. I do think the festival is dying off a little and times are tough. We have only done 43% of what we did last year at this point.
Happy Labor Day to all you hard workers out there!!!!! Thanks for keeping things going while retired old farts like me take it easy and have fun!!! 😎 Peach.
