Amy, don't you think that you need to learn to let it go too. Geeez girl..... Bob, Steve, Rick, me, and several others are still talking about it, why not Rainy. Hell, I couldn't stay out either like I said I would. It ain't easy. Lighten up. Doesn't Rainy, like you, have the right to post what she wants?

I don't think the Gregg reminder is lame at all. He did use to be like that or even worse. He still ain't what I call the Gregg in his prime. It is brought out as a reminder to the hypocritical ones who constantly attack Dickey Betts. I definitely don't mean you Brother Steve. You're coming from a place of love and concern. Ok, his playing has been subpar lately. Or at leasty many feel that way. What can we do about it and what can we blame it on? What can we do about it? Very little. Have a chat with him and voice your concerns if you get an opportunity at a show. Tell his friends and bandmates and people on the inner cirle your concerns and maybe it'll get back to him. And most important, pray for him. I really don't know what else a person can do. What can we blame it on? Booze, drugs, old age, not practicing, not playing together with the band very much. Have all the years of Dickey being Dickey and living the way he chooses caught up with him? Does he take some prescription medication that doesn't interact well w/ alcohol if he is indeed still partying hard? There are hundreds of reasons that we could come up with. Personally, I think it's a combination of a lot of things. Getting older, not practicing on the guitar or playing together w/ the band very much is freakin' huge. If he does party hard like some say, I hope he slows down a little that's for sure. But, like Rich said in his post, the man has earned the right to live how they choose. He's got nothing left to prove to anyone. The guys has done so much for music, the ABB, and given so much joy to folks throughout the years, that I kinda feel like anything else at this point is just gravey. Do I want Dickey to be 100% healthy, mentally and physically. Of course.........we all do. I think if he woodshedded w/ the band for about 2 or 3 weeks and played everyday, everything would be fine.

Morning brothers and sisters :sunny: Well lots of reading, lots of my eyebrows together, some smiles, but always love . This all started over on the ABB site where someone had 3 tickets for sale ,for what ever their personal reasons were that they could not go to the DBGS show 8/28.. he put them there 8/22 ..show was cancelled due to Hurricane Irene 8/28 .. he put the tickets up again day of show...no takers and could not unload these tickets.. so he/she, I guess reluctantly went to this show.. Being somewhere you don't want to be , is a drag and being a musical expertise person that they are, perhaps a teacher of music, or just having more knowledge than your average music person..set the bar high for him/her .. of course if a musician isn't up to your measurement of your expectations.. You know what happens... especially if his name is Dickey Betts ... Oh well ..like I said I was there for the early show.. missed the opening act Kristi... but DBGS took the stage with a fired up Jessica.. I have been to better shows and I have been to worse ones... watching some of ANY youtubes , IPhone videos is just a snapshot... a moving one and thats all it is... could catch a great moment or an off one... Having the common sense to know the different is all it is.. Oh and the entire band played well..and I will see DBGS anytime I can.. Nic, keeping you in my prayers and staying well thoughts.. keep the fight strong and the focus positive.. Where is Liz , anyway ? Kimberly ? Labor Day weekend .. I am working today and I have Sunday ,Monday Off.. maybe Bill and I will head to Mohegan or something ?? Keeping our service men and women in my thoughts.. Hoping our Country remains together and strong. I love where I live and I am proud of being an American.. Yes, Rick... :dog:  :inlove:

Brother Steve: See, your last post really touched on the point, exactly. Even when Betts plays "badly", is it really the entire gig, or parts of same. I have NEVER seen him suck through an entire gig. Specifically, not hs playing. Yes, I have seen the venue suck, or the sound quality suck, or whatever....the entire gig. But Betts, never. A measure here and there, yep, sho' nuff. Ah, already on my second cup of coffee this AM and about to do a couple of miles. Rainy, still have the Mercedes, but I am seiously thinking about getting that 1 car Ive always wanted, a Porsche 356. Of course, its a replica, but, I'm looking. To actually drive one of those up the East Coast during the fall of the year would be a dream come true.

Hey Now!! Wow this day must have been a record for number of post!!! If I get the chance to take in a Dickey show I will be there. 😎 I had a long day at the James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University. It seems there will be more visits, more Drs and more treatments in my future there. I will know more next week. I do have a Great Dr there who is going to try and get me some more help. For that I am Thankful!! Maybe we can hookup Steve on one of those visits to Columbus?? Happy Labor Day to you all. I am volunteering for my annual fundraiser this weekend. Please take a moment to say a Prayer for our Servicemen, Servicewomen and their Families as they stand watch over our Great Nation. It is because of their efforts we are able to execute our First Amendment Rights today!!!! Peach.

Dan, I used to think that way as well, but the recent clips are beyond that... He is playing really bad... most people would walk out of club or venue if an "unknown" was playing like that... Diehards Betts/Allman wouldn't, I probably wouldn't... but I would not feel good about what I saw... I don't think the opinion is about how much you may or may not have paid...I expect Dickey Betts to be... Dickey Betts! One of the best players I have ever had the privilege of seeing. Another lame arguement being thrown around is that "well Gregg used be like this... or I saw this guy once & he was like that"... on & on the circle goes... Clapton in the late 70's was probably even worse... but the fact is that all of those guys have gotten their act together and they can all play at a pretty damned high level. The Dickey I saw in the clips from the winery shows probably cannot get close. If you love Dickey, love him, Hate him, then hate him... just don't piss down my leg & tell me it's raining...

:freaked:LMAO Pinto. I was at that show in Hagerstown Brother Bob. Yeah, the rod and gun club, that's it. Dickey got just a little bit keyed up when his guitar string broke in the middle of Ramblin' Man. Then if memory serves me correctly, the guitar tech handed him another guitar and it must have been out of tune and Dickey tossed it, ever so gently, back to him. Then I think he got the white strat that he normally plays NBLTRW, and off he went into the stratosphere. I think that's how it went down. It's how I like to remember it anyway. Great freakin' show that's for sure. Nope, I wouldn't change a thing either Rick. Warts and all baby!!

Rest up, folks! Next we go charging into Thanksgiving! Heaven help anyone who isn't enjoying life. Thanks to all of you great friends and family for being here and making this a special place. It's a family. Some people either can't or refuse to see it. May all who enter this sanctum with ill intent rot in hell with their flesh snapping and popping in the eternal flames of hell. May the flames blister and boil their flesh and may they writhe and twist in agonizing torment forever! Everybody else have a great weekend!

Not everyone equates Dickey having a good time, even when he gets a bit 'adjusted', with a poor performance. One of my favorite shows of the post-Brothers era was in Hagerstown, Maryland a few years ago outdoors behind the local gun club. Dickey, as the show progressed, was obviously having a good time, and his playing suffered not a bit for it. There are damn good recordings of the show available for the record and anyone curious. For myself, I try to avoid moralizing about others behavior. I'm not perfect, or even very good at it, but I do aspire to not be so judgemental of how others live their lives, the older I get. If it's merely about the money transaction, your choice is clear Amy....

Heeeheee, when I finished writing it, I saw the sh*tstorm had kinda died down a little bit, so I didn't want to throw any fuel to the fire. I didn't think it was that bad, but thought I'd delete it just in case Bro.

TennKev, where did your post go? Anyway, yeah the good ole Grateful Dead in the 1980's and 1990's definitely had some good shows. Real hit and miss, but I dug Brent Mydland. If you haven't already, dig into the fall of 1979 with the GD, which was Brent's first fall tour with the boys. There are some smokin shows in that period...the last time I saw them! In those days, lot's of people didn't even know Brent joined the band in April of 1979, man no internet and texting will do that to you. News traveled slow. So lot's of folks were askin' who is this new guy? We soon found out how competent he was on the keys. Great soulful player.
