Ah, folks, why the fighting? Everyone agrees it was not the best of nights for a wide variety of reasons. Some people were disappointed but went away but with some good vibe anyway and would come back in a heartbeat; that includes me. Others were disappointed and seem to want to incessantly make their point. Point was made; there is no reason for this back and forth BS infighting. Hope the folks in CT have a better show tonight and that Dickey's finger is better. It's gonna make all the difference in the world. I, for one, am just glad I had one more opportunity to see the Cat in the Hat. It could've been my last and, no matter what anybody says, I'm gonna keep that memory as a treasure no matter what the issues may be. Period. And, yeah, TanDan, I feel the same way about Jessica. And, yeah, it WAS absolutely beautiful.

I had another wonderful time thanks to Dickey, The band and fellow dickheads... no complaints from this old cowboy :flame:

Who is this lowdowndirtyblue? I have not seen you around these parts. Now you trying to put words in my mouth. Have you been on the ABB listserv? I have since the late 90's There is an element there that likes to diss Dickey as they have been known to in the blue site at times. I don't have to defend myself to you or anyone.. After Dickey was let go by the ABB many took shots at him and still do about Great Southern. When someone says that the band is no good except for Pedro or that Dickeys always drunk or he can't play etc etc. I can't post back and defend him as one who has been to many a shows and seen some kick as music? Get a life dude. Dickey will rebound and come back better. But as much as you want to believe last night was ok. It was not ok.. Ed

Well, from what Raiiny (and others) are saying the gig had some issues. Did Dickey cut the gig short? Seems like it was only 10 songs, and that I guess is a little bit of a downer in some respects. BUT, the point is to see Brother Betts out on stage, and like Rainy said, you get out of it what you choose to get out of it. I hope she and others dug in when the opportunity presented itself. Sorry about the heat and PA issues being suck ass; phone calls to the sound company can do wonders but the heat...well, you know who controls that thermostat.

well, I have been accused on many occasions that my views on a DB show are one sided because I am a huge fan.. I am still a Huge fan of Betts.... But, I thought I would say it exactly like it was... Dickey had a cut finger and he was hurting.. I was in the first row to the left.. I watched as he walked off stage , in pain.. he was not gone long ... he did the best he could ... came out threw his guitar strap on and off he went... The BAD element was the sound system.. it was horrible.... horrible ...horrible.... I am just a fan.. I don't really know what is tuned up or not.. only how it sounds to me as an individual.... and the over all sound was awful... Listening to some of the videos that have been posted.. onwayout posted on youtube.. and he looked to be in center and the sound seemed much different in that location, maybe , maybe not.... I dig Betts... always have and always will and yep, I am going the next time and time after and after as long as he is willing to play ..I will be there...

I agree with Kirk (lowdowndirtyblue) as we were backstage with Dickey and I had a front row seat in front of Dickey. On my heart and soul, Dickey was in major pain I applaud him for hanging in there when I don't know a man who is strong enough to have done better with the very bad deep cut. He was very upset and did not want to disappoint anyone... Ed, I know you sweetie, but this time you are mistaken, Dickey was not wasted, I swear and I do not lie, no reason to lie on this. I was disappointed in NO air conditioning, 100 degrees outside, 110 degrees inside, I was a sweaty alien last nite, too hot too dance, the sound/acoustics sucked, the audience was uncomfortable and cranky, and Dickey was in major pain from a very deep finger cut! As all guitar players know, when the temp is over 100 degrees and humidity is very high and your hands are totally sweating, the strings, when played to the heavens can cut right thru the layers like a ginso knife, I saw the cut and it was very very deep and I saw the pain in his eyes and face, have some compassion! NO ONE has traveled all over this country with Dickey Betts & Great Southern as much as I have the past ten years, the money I have spent staying at 5 star hotels, rent a cars, planes, entertainment, restaurants, etc, etc...was PRICELESS and the moments that Dickey hugs you and smiles down as though family and love is in the house words cannot express. Getting ready for the show tonite with love and support for Dickey and The Boys and hard working crew! I love you guys, Kimberly

lddb, to think some folks call in sick-at-work because they got a sniffle; or the hang-over that just won't go away. Something I learned in the service to this country many years ago: AN EXCUSE IS JUST A REASON WHY YOU DIDN'T DO YOUR JOB. Crazy glue, no glue, a splint, a trach, a heart cath, amputation,.....doesn't matter to me.... The Man In The Hat did his best to deliver, not a peep of complaint shall you see from me. Some folks don't know...others don't know that they don't know. There is a difference....one you can teach; the other you can't. SEMPER!

While I thought last night's show was not what I was expecting, I found some moments that were really enjoyable. From Liz Reed forward, things got better, but the sound was awful. It was so much better in November for the birthday bash. Everyone has said what was wrong already. I am pretty sure Dickey was upset too. With any performer, half of what makes a good performance is in the mind. Anything that takes a player out of their comfort zone will affect things. Dickey is no exception. At first, Dickey was flushed, and I thought he might faint from heatstroke. It certainly was that hot. I sat in the sixth row, and I saw one cigarette, and one beer onstage for the night. There was no chugathon going on. So my biggest complaint is that when the sound was better for the encore, the show was over. At that point I would have listened for longer. Am I disappointed..yes...will I see him again if he plays...YES! Mitch

On quick note: anything I post about Dickey is out of the utmost love, respect, admiration, and from caring human point of view. I probably should not have posted what I did at the end of my last post, but when one says words in real life you can't reel them back in, and the net should be no different. Rock On Brother Dickey, and we are waiting on the Montana gig 🙂

RedDog,,,, Thanks that means alot to me that you agree... The truth is the truth but some people just are out to cause trouble.. Just no way to justify the attacks on Dickey when they dont know...Other than they are suffering for mental illness And this from ed about his posts says it all... "much so I am sorta an outcast on the ABB list." I have feeling his personality keeps him on a lot of list... NONE GOOD... ed you say you defend Dickey.... Do you know his thoughts and feelings on things in order to defend him and his stance on things or do you just assume you know best? As you appear to be doing now....

IMHO the greatest love song ever written is Jessica. Doesn't need words... The Man In The Hat RULES....always has...always will. "I was thinking of Django Reinhardt when I was writing that song and a lot of it is written so that you can play it on two fingers. I knew what I wanted to do, but I couldn't quite find it. Then my little daughter crawled into the room and I started playing to her, trying to capture that feeling of her crawling and smiling. That's why I called it Jessica." ---Dickey Betts

V man. great video. The dude waited till the last minute to eject. He was real low when he pulled handle, and came out to the side.

Blue man, I was going to say he did not need to do gigs to make money. He loves to play, but you beat me to it. Gregg is the same way. Your post was excellent.

apologize I think not..I came a very long way to see a show and so did others who flew in to see Dickey..If anything he should apologize..What were you drinking back stage kool-aide? I am on a few lists the ABB listser and emule and we have shown nothing but love here towards Dickey. And yes we tell the truth. How much do you think we all spent traveling all over to see Dickey? You should see the stuff said about him on emule and the abb lists.. The stuff here is mild. I am always defending Brother Dickey on those lists so much so I am sorta an outcast on the ABB list. On emule they have heated discussions and let me say its not good..Apologize I think not..

To those of you who were not back-stage last night i was. You don't even have a clue as to how frustrated Dickey was with the cut to his finger. He was so upset about it you that were not back-stage just dont know... And now all of a sudden he has a Marlboro and Bud he is the devil.. Come on grow up he has been doing that every night for ever..... all your quote goodnites people then its ok what he drinks.. If all you are going to is whine.... You should hi-light the good parts and mellow out. If you want a perfect show buy and CD....... It was not a little cut and he superglued it and played.. Think about that a second. He could of walked off still got paid... How can you blame him for the unexpected injury...Its not fair...... Unless in your great wisdom you might not think there was even a cut... You should be ashamed.. Dickey plays becuase he loves it not for a pay check as some have stated, for a man with who knows maybe has maybe $30,000,000 you should apologize to him. And thank him for coming out and dealing with the cut which was much worse then what some here have stated saying it was a callus that feel off without ever seeing... I did and i was there.... And i want to say THANKS TO DICKEY FOR PLAYING!!! I agree its a sad day on the GB for all these unjust attacks on him when you just dont know what you are talking about... To me any DBGS show is better then NONE...... KIRK Good to see Captn, Islandblossom, JK i waved, you look busy. Then the show started

I know it was hot in the big apple, a major heat way has hit the east coast. Here in Ga. it has been this way for about two weeks now, and no let up in site. Yesterday the heat index was 114. I got on my riding mower and cut the grass. I would have rather done that, than be in the room with everybody elbow to elbow last night.

The weather was downright oppressive in New York City last night - not only hot but drizzly and humid as all get go. Just walking across Central Park West was enough to turn anyyone into a sweaty, miserable individual. The venue was pretty but the a/c was totally inadequate; the acoustics were terrible; the PA system was totally off (I couldn't hear Mike sing or play until the very last song); you could tell Dickey's finger was killing him before he even strapped on his guitar; I didn't see a beer in anybody's hand (and I was in the first row) 'cept for Andy. I think everybody knew it was gonna be a disappointment - the band and audience alike - from the get go. Dickey did his damndest to pull it off but EVERYTHING was working against him. We all know he gets frustrated - last night, I don't blame him one whit. How the band pulled out one good song - Jessica - no, it was more than good - it was sublime - was a miracle. When it was over, all EVERYBODY wanted to do was get the hell out of there and take a shower. You win some, you lose some. All in all, however, I still had a great time but I was awfully relieved when that cold water hit me a little after midnight.
