...sounds like the sound company should be fired...or was it the house PA???
the only thing that troubles me is that there are no more shows after today on the schedule for this year!
Those of us who were there Friday are just disappointed that we get didn't get to hear Dickey at his best, which we all know is as good as it gets.
I think the heat is just making everyone a little cranky.
The guy got hurt; give him a break!!
As I said yesterday, he wasn't drunk. In fact totally sober, as we spoke after the show.
One thing I don't understand, though, is how the sound can be so bad. Don't they do sound checks before the show?
Isn't there plenty of time to iron out any issues?
Maybe Redog can help us out on this.
It was my great pleasure to meet both JK and Capn for the first time on Friday. Wish I had the whole weekend to show them around NY, as I know they would do the same if I were visiting them
Capn was all smiles, and through the night, wherever I looked, he was there..sitting behind me, next to me, in front of me!
He smiled and made friends all over the place.
JK....a true Southern Gentleman. It felt like we have been friends for years ( we really are I would say).
So many friends were there from past Beacon days too...Wharfy, Eileen, Anthony, to name a few.
As always, great to see Rainy,Liz,Nancy and Detroit Kay.
It was a good time for me.
Mitch
Ok this is redundant... to go over this again...
On NYC show..
1. and really this is the most important one... Dickey Betts had a very nasty cut on his left ring finger... a bad situation for a guitar player... he did the best he could, all his band mates stepped up to the plate and surrounded him, to ensure he was ok...
Actually , I think it was Mitch who mentioned his concern about a heat stroke.. It had crossed my mind too Mitch, as I watched him walk passed me.. I was more than concerned... but he was back in a flash....
2. The sound system sucked... totally
3. It was the Hottest place I've been to... I have been thinking alot about this since the show... the only other time in my life I was this hot from the weather ( nice try y'all ) was when a boyfriend at time , came to see me from Ca. and we went to a demonstration in front of the White House , High Times mag, etc 1978 for the legalization for pot.... it had to be over 100degrees and I had on blue jeans.... I changed in the car to shorts.. it was ... H E L L..... AND I don't smoke pot... funny... the things we do for the love ....
4. as another day as come and gone.. my memory of the show becomes ecstatic.. I was at yet another DBGS show... how lucky I am that I have the ability to get this music in all it's phases.. and that DB came back out to play for all his fans... I DIG Betts.
The players are extraordinary .. AndyA.. amazing slide work, Duane is a exceptional player and becoming a master, PEDRO... is the music, lives it , breaths, it wreaks from all his pours.. he is a total musician... he carries and redefines the word GROOVE.. I had a very hard time hearing Mike and his smoking keys.. but he rocks and has a soulful voice, the men Frankie and James.. sparks fly off those drums.. I have great appreciation for Dickey Betts , his style, tone, melody and all that is means.
So end of the NY show... how was last night.. Hope his finger was better...
PS.... Thanks Carlos for the Pic you threw into my purse... I just found it this morning... and you have a smile to light up the night.. :wink2:
We had fun smiling at each other... sweet..
.....yep, its not the perfection we seek; its the church service itself.

Wow... I am so sorry to hear that the show you guys caught was...well less than stellar. The one I caught in Utica, New York for free was sensational. I didn't give the review lightly I see MANY shows and have caught almost all of the iconic guitar players of our time and that show was SPOT-On! The music was SO SWEET it almost felt like it put hands on you... like th etouch of a dear friend or loved one..Pure magic. So i am telling you he is at least still capable of making six string soul touching magic, even if not all the time. Please dont think I gloat, I am merely thankful to have caught him at his best.
any thoughts on last nights show?
I agree with bluesky57 and lowdowndirtyblue's views and take. I don't expect every show to be the 'best' show I'd seen, understand that stuff outside of all of our control happens, and don't begrudge the man in the hat an onstage beer or smoke in the least. I get off on the artists enjoying themselves performing in similar fashion to how we in the audience do. I don't get how that's 'unprofessional' at all in the performing arts business.
What I'd give for a Dickey Betts show near enough to reasonably reach at this point....
Jim. I ask that question because of the complaints about the air conditioning. Sometime if a show is not sold out, the building, to save money, will cut the A C off before the show ends. Sometimes its cut off before the show starts. They leave the fans on. I am thinking this is what went down at the gig, the other night.
Question, does anyone know how the ticket sale were for brother Dickey shows.
Good Morning Bros and Sis's,
Still in Gotham. One more thought on the show Friday. the guy in front of us, a fan since "the mid 70's", never moved the entire show. He was into it from beginning to end. For him and most of the other people in the balcony it was a darn good show. Down below however, confusion reigned with the ushers wading into the crowd trying to get them to sit but w/little success and more than a few overly rowdy patrons getting a little too carried away. I think the balcony was the sweet spot to be in at this show. Anyway, as always I left with a smile on my face knowing I had just witnessed a real live American original and his band of merry musicians hittin the note one more time. Thanks DBGS! good luck tonight. We will meet again, until then safe travels. KLBazur
...more than one can imagine, I want to experience the freight train of the Sun rolling on the tracks of time in New Orleans today. "Quiet" there means the day...another day...is screaming in the ear of Her French Quarter; she rests wherever the experiences of the night before left Her. New Orleans is a beautiful whore, and I want to smell her coffee perfume this morning...
HMM coffee is ready , and I am ready to have some... yum'
How is Red Dog...? Hope your days are getting better ? maybe your out golfing this morning... I hope...
Mr. Jim so nice to finally meet you... you are even better than your pictures and so darn sweet... This man knows his way around NY better than any out of town person I have ever meant... That was impressive, Jim..

TanDan - I am very happy to see your posts.:-) I have always respected your opinion and now I respect it even more. Thank you for your input, You have always been a good, solid and very generous brother.
As for me - I have loved Dickey for close to 40 years, and that will never change. End of story. His music has brought inexplicable joy to my life - and many times I really needed it. I will always love and respect him for that.
Respect is the key. I respect him and I love and respect the people and friends his music has brought me, whether we all agree on last night or not.
