Played our acoustic show last nite at the Hooter's 'Bike Nite'...got lots of applause for the 'Dickey' songs..

It never ceases to amaze me that people everywhere love Dickey Betts.
Perhaps the best thing about Dickey's music is the way it attracts Loving Caring people. I feel so fortunate to have met and enjoyed the company of over 50 remarkable human beings. Words alone could never describe how I feel about so many of you. I have had nothing but positive experiences with any of you.
Genuine since 69
Thank u Nic, you and Pam are such dear people, cannot wait to see yall again.
Hey Marci, Don't sweat the small stuff. Just know that there's a hierarchy in place here. It is difficult to know what your own personal niche is when you find yourself in the grey area between fan, family, friend, employee and volunteer.
I have learned through experience that it is always best to let the folks in charge make the announcements and arrangements. If we can help (like with the hotel rates), that's great but it's wise to figure out what your place is and try to stay in it.
I know. I have learned through experience that sometimes one crosses the line unknowingly and then someone comes at you and gives you a bashing for trying to help. What we see as help or disseminating important information is not necessarily seen that way by other people. I'm never quite sure what my place is but, when in doubt, I find it wise to keep my trap shut or go back and delete things that shouldn't have come from me.
It's OK. You're new and most welcome here and your enthusiasm is infectious. Just stop to think next time if what you have to say is personal or business related and that it's not for you to say. Like Red Dog would say, just "stay sweet".
Hey Mitch. You are so right about being the Father Of The Bride!!
Hi Marci. You are a Kind person so don't let anyone bother you. You are welcome here anytime in my book and are a very nice fit over here. Thanks so much for contributing and for your Kind words, I hope you have a Goodtime day tomorrow. Peach.
Thank you Rainy, that sweet heartfelt message is again EXACTLY what I am talking about here. I have had several things said to me or posted lately that I have taken offense to. When I first got involved with the sites I was sooooo happy, it felt like "coming home".
I have been in love with this band LITERALLY since I was a little girl and my mom and dad would put their records on and the music would play thru the house. I knew even at age 5 or 6 that I was hearing something spectacular......I can still remember vividly sitting in the floor playing with toys while my parents danced around the living room to "Melissa"...... :inlove:
This music has basically been the soundtrack of my life for as long as I can remember and I feel so blessed to be apart of it. SO when RUDE people post very hateful things that are obviously meant to insult people, People that are just sharing their love of the music bc we feel like this is our second family...it is very hard to stomach!
I get up every morning and look forward to seeing what is going on with everybody on these sites. People that I would not know if it werent for our mutual love of this soul stirring music. That is all of our common thread.... For it to blossom into a "family" discussion everyday is just a natural progression for me.
But I am learning that there are ALWAYS rotten Peaches wherever you go...as in life, the same goes for here...or over there. It is really sad that one person feels the need to TRY and make other people as ugly and miserable and angry as they are, but there is one in every crowd. That is why I do love this place and all of you.... You really love eachother and that is a beautiful thing. And it is exactly what the original band had in mind...I believe that with all my heart.
I have never been anything but sincere and genuine with anything that i have posted here and I dont know why anyone would find that "unable to stomach"
I love the little things like hearing about Nic and his family getting ready for his daughters wedding. How beautiful that he can share all that with us and we are all miles and miles away.....but somehow feel we are still a part of their special time. Or having the opportunity to pray for Luke and his family....I mean how beautiful is that. And to know how much comfort that all our messages meant to sweet Doggie. And I know they did! I never saw or talked to him that he didnt tell me how much these sites meant to him and he always wanted that passed along....
Well, thank you for indulging my rambling, but I really do want yall to know how very special this place and yall are. Thank you for letting me be a small part of it......and I sincerely look forward to meeting ALL of you one day some where along this road.....God Bless Yall!
And sweet Rainy as always thank you for your words of encouragement...they always mean so much to me. Someone sent me a pm today and told me that my " sweet spirit reminded them of their dear friend Rainy" I took that as quite a compliment. 🙂 Love you much!
Thanks, Capn! You just might make his dream come true!
No Problem Pintobean I will PM Blackfish with an addy to send the invite and personally hand deliver it to Dickey, Donna, Duane and the Band
Obviously I cannot/wouldnot give out anyones Home Address without their permission
Hey Mitch , Nic and Lizzie.... to all thanks for the kind words... makes a person feel good being connected to each and every one of you..
Sorry this is once again long and lengthy... I am starting to sound like an Old Wind Bag. 😮
Marci , we haven't talked since the passing of Joseph , but it is great to see you posting on DB.. I can not even begin to understand the underlining differences we seem to have over on the ABB..I have always posted on both sites... I came to the Internet in hopes of finding a page for the ABB, my favorite band and favorite guitar player Dickey Betts ...back in 04 or 05 I forget..anyway, I knew that DB was let go by the ABB and thought well lets see what is happening ..knowing my heart belong DB and he belonged with the ABB... without being repetitive.. it all came to a boiling point with the 40th anniversary shenanigans... it was just bogus... and Joseph stepped in on the ABB GB many times when things were extremely heated on the forum ,in anything goes ( AS I AM SURE HE WOUILD DO NOW )... it changed some of us Old timers , we had tried to stay neutral within reason... no one wanted to take sides especially because it was more intimate than that and frankly none of our business.. We as fans wanted the Band back to the the original men to celebrate that milestone , the four founding members... What I came to realize is that .. two of them became finger pointers... with out turning that finger around to themselves FIRST... and they did it in the most unflattering way towards a heavy contributor and a one time leader of the band., Mr. Betts.. it was a poor display of complete immaturity and disrespect, especially by one particular band member...
So the small disagreements over on the ABB grew into many huge distasteful displays of poor ( for a lack of a better word ) sportsmanship...
DB has spoken very little about what had happened over the break-up...But, when he has, and I have heard him, speak with deep respect for all his fellow band mates....and What it "meant " to him to be an Allman Brother and the music that they made together.. Once upon a time.
But , the truth is .. I was embraced by both very lovingly into the family here and there because of our basic love of this music .. There are some very strong personalities over there as well as over on DB..some do not let it go ( I think I am one )... over all , nowadays I find most fans agreeable, the tension seems to be gone for some..
It is a complex question, you ask... and even more complex by the men who made that music to begin with... the music will stand the test of time... it has already stood for 40 plus yrs and counting... there is no mistaking genius , the earth moving sound, heart and soul touching body of work that began with Duane, Dickey, Berry, Gregg, Jaimoe, and Butch.... it's a shame the men could not have worked beyond their personal differences and found a more even way to communicate with each other in their daily speaking words.... no matter , we have DBGS and the fantastic group of musicians with their composer , composition maker and master tone melody guitar player Mr. Betts..
The Allman will continue to play with their fantastic musicians and both will keep rocking and rolling down the highway... because the road goes on forever....
I have since lost my desire to keep the flame alive in a reunited band ... that, my dear brothers and sister is gone with the wind....
Keep posting Marci on both GB's... someone mentioned the other day about the GB not being a personal message board like face book... well, before there was ever facebook.it was the Guest Book here and on ABB... it is their living room and have invited us in to chat , exchange views, talk about their Music or Music in general, some light talk of politics, not to heated or opinionated, daily events in the News, the birth, deaths, Birthday , celebrations like marriage's , work related, health related.., if someone takes that as a personal message to someone... and not understand the beauty of where it was inspired from.. well.. it is all lost on me...
Have a Blue Sky Day.,.,. and to use a signature by peachmanic John... Dickey Betts is what I always loved about the ABB... man, for me ... true statement...
and like our Lizzie said this morning Love y'all.... 🙂
ps... Mr. Jim how are the parents doing ? Keeping them and you in my thoughts...
:dog: Joseph  :inlove:
GHANDI...that is EXACTLY what I am talking about and Nic's post below...you are all beautiful souls...
...just want to chime in this good vibes.
I dont comment very often over here, but I just have to say that I love this site and reading all that you sweet precious people write to eachother everyday. It is like a treu family- the brother and sisterhood that this music started so many years ago.
It is a real shame that the same vibe doesnt happen on the ABB site, I thought it did...but it doesnt. SAD.
I have never seen yall be anything but sweet and kind to eachother, whether new or old people post you welcome them with open arms. THank ya'll for being a great bunch, it means a lot to me...even if I dont always post it. Marci
Hey Nic,
There is nothing like being the "Father of the Bride"! No words can explain it.
Hope you all have a great time on Saturday!
Mitch
Hey Now!! Thanks to all of you for the Frienship we share here. I do so much enjoy reading the post each day. Your words have moved me again Rainy.
The wedding is this coming Saturday. Thanks Kevin for your Kind words Brother. We are very busy here. Two of my Sisters are in from Florida and indiana and will be out here this morning to help out. A Dear Friend from the Florida Keys Clarisse is also in route today. Pam has lots of Family coming in from illinois. All of us six sibblings will be together as well as all five of Pam's. And our ABB Sister Carole AKA Sistabluz is also attending. We have so much to celebrate!!! 😎
I sure could use a live DB show. Gregg will be in Ohio around 22 & 23 April but I do not think I will be able to attend either show.
I must get moving as I have to get a haircut and do some shopping. I hope you all have a Safe & Goodtime week. Peach.
To my limited knowledge, Donna checks in. I do not believe Dickey gives a hoot.
I do know about those indelible connections you make with people, Rainy. I am grateful I have one with you.
I always want to specifically name and check on everyone here but I know I'm always going to leave someone out so this is an all encompassing I love you to everyone.
Blackfish, I'm not too sure that Dickey reads this guestbook or forum. Maybe someone - (Capn?) - on the board would know how you could send your kind invitation directly to Dickey. It seems very thoughtful to invite the Band to the wedding of your daughter. Congratulations to her and God bless you. Good luck!
Hey Dickey, how have you been? I have been following your music since the sixties and have been to countless shows thruout the years. My daughter Jennifer is being married on the same day day as your gig at The Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, N.J ON July 8th. 2011. The reception party is being held at The Oyster Point Inn in Red Bank which is right around the corner from The Count Basie. I would like to invite you and the band over after your show to tip a couple back and have something to eat on us. I cannot tell you how much your music has meant to me and my wife thru the years. I was at Atlanta Pop Festival and The Fillmore shows to. Once again my family would be honored to have you guys by and BS for awhile, the party should just be peaking by the time your show is over. Once again I hope you and your family and band members are all ok. Blackfish
Beautiful thoughts Rainy.
Have a great day. See you at the next show.
Mitch
:sunny:
Good Morning to all my friends here at DB..
I loved seeing your message this morning Lizzie, it did my old heart good .. I am having my morning coffee with my keyboard.. Some of my morning greeters and coffee drinkers are gone forever.. first and foremost ,Joseph... I have felt the void...
OK..onto the day... I wish I could make the memorial for Joseph, he knows I will be there in spirit.. he is around me , alot... I get the messages , HE IS subliminal to me.. He will not be forgotten . He made an impact on many, many people..
If the brothers can not find it in their schedule to be there, the first one to understand would be Joseph, he may not like it and feel hurt, but he understands it.. Commitments are huge... However, and this is a huge HOWEVER...
These men have a beginning... a very special bond and Joseph's helpful hand had an enormous amount of contribution in it.. He was just a fan of Duane's .. they found a kinship with each other and had an immediate liking of each other.. it is how beginnings are made... as time went on and their friendships developed so did The ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND.. Forgetting where you began and the people who helped you along the way, is not a cool thing to do. People may not like each other their whole lifetime, but when a group of people are pivotal in the success of their fellowman.. well , it may be time to step up to the plate.. be humble , let what ever ill feelings you have fade to black.. It's the right thing to do.. It's not asking much.. a day out of a lifetime , to remember someone with kindness, love and appreciation for being alive in the first place.. Just my silly opinion, is all...
Joseph and I , had a clear understanding of each other... we grew close in the past 6 yrs as people sometimes do.. My meeting him back in 73 ' was life changing for me and getting to see the band I loved.. He made that happen, for no other reason except to make 2 fans 'thrilled" to be put on stage to watch and see out musical hero's.. Some how that brought him joy.. I 'll never forget it.. and looking for him after the show to Thank Him.. he had disappeared.. of course now, I realize he was already hard at work taking the equipment down , loading it up and getting ready for the next gig... we were all young then... life was an apple and were enjoying each bite.. we still do, except now , hopefully you savor each one , instead of just gobbling it down...
Lizzie love you and Thank you for thinking of me... As it stands now.. I can not make it.. to Macon... I do plan on it one day... I will visit all these important and magical places in my quiet time... I wont have to find Joseph..I carry a piece of him in my heart every day...
What a wonderful surprise on this Wednesday morning...
Prayers out to Lukes beautiful Amy... stay strong and focused.,.,
Kimberly.. keeping your recovery on the fast list.. you have some DBGS shows in in NJ soon.. 🙂
Like TennKev said... Nic and Pam ..did the wedding happen?
Kitty ..how are you ??
Have a Blue Sky Day...
Please forgive any spell errors and grammar
ps... this may self destruct.... 😮
:looney:Because of all the DB&GS, Grateful Dead etc. concerts, the ol' memory ain't what it should be, but I believe that Nic & Pam's daughter Sarah has either recently tyed the knot or will be very soon. So, I just wanted to wish the recent or soon to be bride and groom and their families some well wishes and a lifetime of happiness. :beer:A toast to you fine folks. Hope I'm not way too early or late.
