Amy, I don't know Luke... but you remind me of a vegetarian who wants to go protest the hot dog eating contest in Coney Island, where people go to have fun. If you don't have anything better to do with your day, then criticize Dickey and his music, then why don't you take a ride to Memphis and jump in the Mississippi River.

Wow... lots of fire here today... I have to say that I have never seen a "clunker" of a show by Dickey and the gang. Dickey and the band have been nothing but awesome everytime I have seen them. I would have loved to see him this past week in NY since I haven't seen them since '09. The east coast folks are lucky.... I think RickT is right that just being in the man's presence is magical for many of the folks here...me included. I accept the things that I can not change and am grateful for everything that has been passed my way. I will continue to support the cat-in-the-hat until I am no longer here. He means that much to me.

I still have the pick Dickey gave me and his music is timeless while B.B. plays the same o'l licks watching porn on his bus. I threw his pick in the sewer and will never travel to Memphis until I get a refund on the ticket they stole from me at his bus station and his bouncer's apologize for disrespecting me after I've supported his music and spent money in his club's since 1993...

Once again AmyR, you're making assumptions...I'm having a great day and don't need to be disturbed by a twit like you on Dickey's website, where we come to enjoy the music and not criticize... What do you do for a livin? When and if you put 40 years of makin music under your belt than you might have somethin' to say until then why don't you just zip it... I've seen B.B. King several times and Dickey has "taken to the mountain too many times by the cat in the hat to bad mouth him and say the sh*t that is constantlly said about him" while B.B. Kings in New York and Nashville has disrespected me on several ocassions and his city of Memphis is as grimy as it gets in the good o'l U.S.A. try walking in Memphis these days and see what happens to your candy ass.

Could be Brother Steve. Thing is, I don't know and neither does 99.9% of the folks on either site. Could just be old age. Could just be not playing together very much. Could be a thousand different things. Brother Dave mentioned something as well. Again, I'll take my chances every time and twice on Sunday. Been taken to the mountain too many times by the cat in the hat to bad mouth him and say the sh*t that is constantlly said about him. Rick hit it right about himself, Luke, Rainy etc.. concerning the spiritual place, or the zone, or just that happy, euphoric place that his music can take you. And thank you Amy. I have asked Lana and Rowland and have never gotten a response. Again, you are babbling about something that you have no clue. Sober as a judge? I have no idea. Now are you 100% sure about what you think?

Regardless of the reasons... when you look at the clips from 2010 & 2011 Dickey is not playing well & doesn't look well either. Age is a small part of it... but I can't ignore what seems obvious and that is the alcohol seems to be overtaking his abilities... I hate to say that... Dickey is a great guitar player and songwriter.. he has inspired an untold number of professional & amateur players worldwide... myself included... everytime I pick up a guitar there is "something Betts" that comes out. I hope he can shake whatever has a hold over his soul... it is cheating him of what should be a golden time of reflection & accolades from his peers. I think this gig in Bangor w/ BB King could be a real turning point... it should be a sold out house & Dickey usually rises to the occasion... I hope so.

You're right, it's not a contest. I see your kind and loving concern and comments toward Dickey continues. Lucky us. I'm glad to finally hear from someone who is in the inner circle and knows what Dickey's drinking and drug habits are these days. What I get is that you like to come on Dickey's site and stir up sh*t. Get it? It's also great to see your spelling knowledge and your knowledge of the history of certain phrases and ethnic slurs. Too bad you are clueless when it comes to kindness and tact towards Dickey on the freakin' Dickey Betts website. I'm sorry you are having a bad day Amy. I think you are peachy. And your love, kindness, and tact towards Dickey is overwhelming.

swa22 I was at one of the Carlson Daley shows when DBGS was the house band for a week in the summer of 2005... I think the video was on the homepage here for awhile.. it's only recently that it's not there, not enough room , I guess.. I will search youtube.. Jim King usually is very good at finding videos as well as Voador .... OH and ya know what else.. today is a gift, tomorrow is not promised and yesterday is gone... peace , love and all good things all.. :flower2:

In my opinion, the best line up Dickey put together was the 2005 version of DG&GS with Twinkle and Duane. I was at The 6/01/05 Mexacali Blues Show with my friend Kristen, the 7/15/05 Albany Egg show, The Stone Pony on 8/20/05 and The West Hampton 8/21/2005 show. Does anyone have any footage or remember when Dickey appeared on the Carson Daily show as the house band? with Sugar Ray as the musical guest?

to AmyReagan: "a spade a spade" is a racial slur that I will not tolerate from an a**whole like you or the GPI human resources department in Glacier National Park, a racist corporation from Arizona. I've seen the new ABB 2x since Dickey left and they don't have the the magic that Dickey brought to the band during the 1990's... The ABB sold out and Dickey formed a band that Duane would be proud of.

I think Bruce said it best: Trust the Art not the Artist... Dickey has provided us with amazing music for over 40 years... What a man/musician/band does on or offstage is none of the so called critics business, who have only turned into rats... Blue Sky is and will be my favorite song until the day I die. I know I guy who met Gregg Allman in Florida and he couldn't even start his car...have you ever seen the ABB Hall of Fame Ceremony when Gregg was a complete basket case...Dickey carried the Allman Brothers Band on his back after Duane died and the thanks he got was being booted out of the band when Gregg and Butch changed the ABB into a corporation, selling out like StarBucks & Samsung...and a wise musician told me that Warren Haynes is overated... That's my 2 cents after being an Allman Brothers fan since 1972. The band isn't the same without Dickey and I will not support the rats on the blue site. Keep Rockin' Dickey

I must agree with Wayne. The 2002 lineup was a smokin band!!!! I would have put that band up against any!!! The Johnstown PA show in November was off the charts as was the Ferndale Michigan show in June just to name a couple!!! Goodtimes!! Peach.

Hey Dave, the lineup of Great Southern that you were a member of was by far the best Dickey has played with since leaving the ABB. You on bass, Mark on drums, Kris on the sax, Matt behind the keys and singing along with Dickey, and Dangerous Dan and Dickey on guitar. That my friend was an awesome band, you guys grooved every show I heard. High Falls, Jessica, Blue Sly, Immortal, Back Where It All Begins, you guys always nailed it. Still one of my all time favorite shows by anyone is the July 27, 2002 show in Atlanta, that is my idea of "Hittin' the Note!"

My thanks to Brother Nic for his post and good thoughts.I will throw in my two cents on a point here not mentioned.I feel REALLY bad for Dickey. He just lost Buddy and that is bigger than we can know.Buddy also died the long slow way and that means Dickey has been dealing with that for a long while ,too.I saw him in Enfield and gave him a hug and I do not think he was drunk.I hung out with him at Infinity for a long time in February and he did not drink at all. So,if I may.......I would go easy on him and each other. Why fight?Go or don't go to see him.But everybody is entitled to their opinion. That is my opinion.Peace, brothers and sisters.

Anyone that really knows me know I do not drink the Blue Site Kool Aid. Personally, the Blue Site has as many agendas floating around from the TOP (e.g. the Band, its management, its Site managers) down to fans, as the number of pellets in a #9, 12 guage shotgun shell (how is DAT for a comparison)...and is as scattered as same. When someone comes on this Site and bashes Betts, AND, is focused on his so-called alcohol use....that is a red flag, and the poster focuses is centric to the drinking. I personally think its that guy Jim that finally got banned (what was his name?) or a similar lemming. Anyways, folks, keep it in perspective please...you are not going to change this tune and its an agenda at work; not an honest critique of the show itself. I think that Rainy frames it well. She went to the show primarily to be in the cosmic space with Betts and his vibe. That satisfied her needs, and I get that. The performance becomes secondary. Actually, the lemmings can never grasp the concept because they never experienced what Hittin the Note really means. We used to talk about it all the time with Red Dog, but much of that concept and torch bearing went back to dust with our sweet Brother. So let this person speak their mind, and take it for the value of nothing, because she (he...whatever) either does not get it, or has another agenda to tout. Im really happy Dickey still performs personally, and I am equally happy some like Rainy and me and Jim and Luke and on an on and on (you know who you are) have matured past the performance to the spiritual aspect of what Dickey brings to the table.

Believe me, I'd love to Amy, but some of your henchmen had me conveniently banned from the blue site because of this very reason. Tell Lana and Rowland to get me reinstated and I would absoultely LOVE to have it out with you and the kool aid club. Funny, you come to THIS site starting some sh*t, and we are the ones looking for a fight. LMAO Again, we take the good w/ the bad. I'll take my chances w/ Dickey every time and usually come out a winner. I've seen 1 bad show out of 40-50. Not bad in my opinion. And again, if you don't like the product, don't go. Some would rather see him retire. Hey, that's fine if you feel that way. I'm glad he still gets out there and gives it a shot. Some will be good and some will be bad. Such is life.
