Actually, that version of Midnight Rider is my alltime favorite....every time I play that record, I see a young Gregg playing in a young band, and the tone, and groove, is simply breath catching for me. I love the way the song ends cold. Duane's tone and chord progression is also very cool.
The band did not think that Midnight rider was good enough to go on the record. That is what I am thinking. There were some other songs that did not make it either. They are on on tape somewhere..
I have a record that has a "Midnight Rider" from the Fillmore. I think Berry Oakely sings harmony with Gregg. I believe that is what the line notes say. Anyway I can't look right now as it is one of the dozens of records I have in a storage shed in another part of town.
The album is Duane Allman Anthology Vol. 2 which came out in the summer of 1974.
It also has a live Dimples by the ABB with Duane singing. When the Warehouse live CD came out in 1970, it turned out that is the same Dimples. You can hear Duane say at the beginning something like "We don't play this song much but I feel like singing tonight".
Was listening to Sirius radio today and heard Midnight Rider. It said it was from the Fillmore but the 2 commercial Fillmore releases I have don't have Midnight Rider. It was a version I had never heard before but it sure sounded like Dickey and Duane so I wondered if any one here knows anything about this version?
Rainy, everybody calls you sugar, honey! We oughta make a movie...."Something About Rainy"
It's a very happy day 'round here , when first and foremost.. I am called * sugar * by our loved Joseph :inlove: You called me *sugar*.. 😀
and it's good to hear from Nic, Blackley, Pinto, and Brent spdb.... we are still missing some of our loved DB supporters, one being Jim King... calling out to you.. Where are you ???? Hope all is ok...
Rock on RD...all the best.
Now is the time to mulch. Pine straw, oak leaves, both great for flower beds and blueberries. You cannot mulch to much for blueberries. Pile it on, they love it. I have about 250 BB bushes and it is quite the task to get em all. But the exercise is good...gets me in shape for hunting season...by all indicators, it's going to be a cold winter. Take care of your plants and pets.
Since RedDog seemed to like it, here's the next verse of "Dogs on the Run" and I've got a feeling there are quite a few perople around here who can relate......
"I fell overboard and washed up on the beach.
Felt the waves and the sand roll over me.
Yes I was helped to the home of a young bleached blonde
Who said "Honey, I discovered early in life there's ways of getting anything I want.
Yeah some of us are different.
It's just something in our blood.
There's no need for explanation -
We're just dogs on the run."
Blackey, thanks you for your words. I am doing great.
That is me, Dog on the run. Where is the question? I don't know. ha ha.
Red Dog. I've been working out of town and its been a few weeks since I've been here. I'm so happy you are home and posting again. I've been worried about you. I was born in 1947 and saw the ABB first as a 22 year old and the band really clicked with me. And the brotherhood between the band and it's roadies and its fans was real speical. Berry Oakely in particular seemed to have a fondness for the band's fans that one could feel. At several shows, if one was hanging around the right placeses before or after the show, Oakely would come check in with the fans and let us know we were as much as part of what the band was doing as the six guys on stage. I've seen and even spoken to you over the years but there is no way you could remember. But being a big ABB fan back then, I can remember some of them. One in particular was when the band played at High Point University in North Carolina in 1971. Oakely looked very tired and told us fans before the show that the guys were tired but the show will still be hot. I remember you telling us that you'all had more or less been on the road since the spring of 1969 and you'all did something like 300 shows the last year(1970) and close to that this year (1971). Also they band had several horn players on stage with them at this show. I think Duane, during the show, mentioned one as being something like Juicey Carter. It's hard to believe that has now been 39 years ago. We used to be young didn't we brother Red Dog. I will be 63 on December 5th. May God bless you and I hope you have many happy days, months and years ahead!!!!
Nic....my favorite Tom Petty tune...
"Well we come with what was on our backs
When the leaves had died and all turned black
When the wind was cold and blew them around
And we laid our blankets on the ground.
And I woke up feeling hungry
Looking straight into the sun
Left a cold night on the ground
Like a dog on the run.
DOGS ON THE RUN
(Like a RedDog on the run...lol)

his voice sounds remakably strong and he seemed in Good Spirits.
He was too tired for a visitor so...
Next Trip.
He's one helluva br'er IMHO

"It is called a TEXAS Catheter because everything is BIGGER in Texas... therefore Augie has been designated at requiring the exceptional provisons."
Otherwise it would be called a "Rhode Island Catherter".
Hope Red Dog is feeling better every day! Good luck at the doctor's office>

I forgot how kittens can be a pain in the ass. I hope he mellows down some and stops attacking the other cats. They're standing their own but I can see it in their eyes, "Mommy, why did you bring this little monster to live here?".
Love to everyone today. It's Monday...just get through it.
Love coming through to RD every day in every way.
Red Dog...
