Pam & I are sorry to hear of the passing of Joseph "RedDog" Campbell. We had the pleasure of spending some time and as he said "breaking bread" with him in September. I have such an admiration for RedDog as he was a man's man. He had high Honor and such a strong work ethic. He was a no bullshit cat who told it like he felt it. I have a very high level of respect for him. My condolences are offered to his Family, Bandmates and Friends. A sincere thank you to Judi and Clark who took such good care of our Brother. Also to Rainy whom RedDog Loved so much. Pam & I plan to stop by Macon tomorrow evening for a couple of days to pay our respects. I am glad he is free of pain. Peach.

Especially to Dickey, my heartfelt condolences to all who knew RD. Even if I wasn't much in the know, I only knew "of" him, but I grasp the magnitude of his influence and presence. It's so sad when a true "original" goes...but how wonderful the legacy of what he helped shape, what a wonderful imprint he leaves in this world.

"Now the laborer's task is o'er; now the battle day is past; now upon the farther shore lands the voyager at last. Father, in thy gracious keeping leave we now thy servant sleeping." RIP Reddog. - Tommy S

Today is, in my humble view, a day of celebration. Our Brother, our friend, is no longer suffering. He is in the embrace of love, is free of the pain and binds of cancer. A man's man was Red Dog. He was all in with Duane, and had the backs of his band peers. He said what he felt, and freely told folks he loved them. He lived the defining traits of the Brotherhood until the end. He gave us examples of what the Brotherhood stood for, and clearly showed me at least it was a life choice, not a fad. He had a strong work ethic. He approached his work with determination and support of those depending on him. I will sorely miss the Brother Dog. I loved him and how he carried himself in this walk. May God comfort him and his family. My heart goes out to Rainy. Love you and I know you are hurting sweet one. Jim, you and Luke in particular were close to RD and Im sorry for your loss Brohs. I understand Brother Dog was supported by hospice, and thank you to them for their care and transitional support to RD and his family. Dickey and Donna, thank you for your support to Red Dog over the years and most recently. Jaimoe, thank you for showing the love and extending the brotherhood to Red Dog. I admire you for what you did to support him. Im also sorry for your loss. I can honestly say the love of this family, the love of his close friends, extended RD's life. His disease process was extensive and devastating, and love and posts from you guys kept him going.

With sorrow in my heart and sadness around Joseph Campbell's death.. I would just like to say that to me, Joseph was a kind man with a deep caring heart , he found the good in most people, never wanted to hurt anyone, but also did not want to be hurt. He had told me upon hearing his diagnose that he was at peace with it all.. He said his life has been great, really great and anything that ever happened after he was shot in Vietnam was a gift... he also reassured me that upon his passing all would be good again, as he would be embraced once again into the loving arms of his mother,. and that made him very happy to know they would be together once again... and of course into the fold of Duane and Berry... To Judy , your strength surpasses anyone or anything I have known , your calm demeanor and love surrounded Joseph and he knew your love protected him, your connection will never be broken to all who know and love you... you are in every sense of the word an Angel among Angels... God Bless you.... Big hug.. Clark your dad was so very proud of you and loved you so much.. He boasted about you all the time.. take his love with you in every step of life.. he will continue to guide you along. To his Brother and sisters and all his immediate family ... my deepest condolences to you all .. Tonight upon hearing this very sad news,, we had a new soft snow today.. I went outside quietly said a prayer for my friend .. picked up a handful of snow ... threw it into the air, it sparkled and glittered with Joseph name... My heart is heavy and sad... rock and roll Joseph... kiss your mom , hold her tight she awaits you there.,.. RIP JLC Lizzie 😥

This is just so sad. Cancer sucks Ed It is with great sadness that The Allman Brothers Band loses a Brother. Lawrence Joseph "Red Dog" Campbell passed away this afternoon, Monday, February 21, 2011. Red Dog was one of the original roadies for the Allman Brothers Band. His picture is memorialized for all time on the back of their seminal "At Fillmore East" album. Writer/Filmmaker Cameron Crowe included a characterization of Red Dog by name and appearance in his now classic film "Almost Famous". He will always be remembered by all those who knew him. The Old Dog is out of the house, howling with his Brothers.
