A old English poem shared with me on a napkin one Sunday morning years ago over a breakfast of eggs and porridge, it appeared on a plaque in a neighbor's garden a year or so ago and it made me smile; I thought "I'd like that for my garden if I could find one". I never was able to locate one and was disappointed when it disappeared from the bed of flowers in front of my neighbor's house.. Had someone thought it also sweet and just took it for themselves?
You can steal someone else's garden ornament because you think it might look good in YOUR garden, but you can never steal someone else's sweet sentiment - there's a lesson in there somewhere if you look close enough:
"The kiss of the sun for pardon
The song of the bird for mirth
One is closer to God's heart
In the garden
Than anywhere else on earth."
Jonesy. I have the Butch Trucks comment saved and he said it earlier this year so it's a new one. Butch said" Derek Trucks can plays circles around Duane Allman" but to be fair Butch lately has credited Duane Allman for the creation of the ABB & for giving him (Butch) his career & life.
Butch, on several occasions, has made it very clear that the current version of the ABB is the BEST version of the ABB to ever grace the stage technically. That Derek is better than Duane, Warren is better than Dickey & Otiel is better than Oakley. Butch has even said Otiel is probably "THE BEST MUSICIAN I'VE EVER WORKED WITH" and "Derek is the best guitarist I've worked with & may be the best working anywhere today". Warren & Gregg Okay with that? Who knows.
BUT Butch also on more than one occasion has said in recent years & months that the original ABB has an edge on the current band on "originality"!! That means the original band could come up with more unexpected things on stage & create original material for the ABB that is better or maybe "more of it" than the current band.
But there isn't much of a way to test the current band against the original as to original material as the current band has only put out ONE new studio album in the 11 years it's been together which is longer than any other version of the band!
Does "Hittin The Note" equal or surpass the first album, Idlewild South, Eat A Peach & I guess we can include Brothers & Sisters since Oakley is on two tracks for original material?? I don't think so but that is me. I don't think it completely equals Seven Turns, Shades of Two Worlds & Where It All Begins myself. But it could be better than Reach For the Sky & Brothers of the Road. Probably not Enlightened Rogues.
But if Butch is correct, then the musicianship is much better because it's the current band.
But you know what? I just can't imagine the current band playing Statesboro Blues, Must Have Did Somebody Wrong, Stormy Monday, You Don't Love Me, Liz Reed, Whipping Post from the Fillmore album or One Way Out & Trouble No More from Eat A Peach (all live tracks) better than the original band!!! I mean what in the hell could Derek, Warren & Otiel with Marc added to Butch & Jaimoe DO to improve on that? To me..not a damn thing. I even submit it wouldn't be as good. Maybe technically better but STILL NOT AS GOOD!

The poetry * is * the journey through your own heart. That is how your heart speaks to you.
More please..

Here's an oldie but goodie...
The morning sun may kiss the sky
The moon may kiss the stars up high
The morning dew may kiss the grass
But you, my friend............

I say the poet is speaking of a little bit of both. Good stuff Rick and rajo.

ah, but does the poet speak to a physical walk through the woods, or, is he reflecting on the journey through his own heart???

Very Nice Poem Rick!
WINTER'S JOURNEY
It's Winter...
And through snow covered evergreens
I See
A humble cottage, lone
Through which her windows shone
A fire's ebb, glowing warmly.
And I am reminded of my love for her,
So I continue, this my Journey
Ever to her warmed,
Ever to her loved,
So that forever shall this my winter's journey's be...
