See, that is where you are very wrong, Prine. You think the ABB as simply a collective of musicians performing ABB songs, using the ABB branding, as OK. Strictly speaking, the ABB was founded from a strong Brotherhood perspective. The Band chose to remove Betts, thinking another guitar player could play the notes, and all would be fine. If Betts had died or retired, then I think many could see that as appropriate to the Brotherhood perspective. You, Claude and others of like mind, dont see it that way.
All of the Band mamabers, including Claude, have referenced the Brotherhood as integral to the ABB, so I dont want to hear it minimized by you or others. The fact is, they all trampled on Duane's and Berry's graves when they fired Betts and they are the ones that have to rationalize through it.
Hey Folks. Whats done is done. It is time to move on. I have only read the first 80 pages and have not got into the mention of Dickey yet. I have enjoyed the book up to this point. How ever it turns out I am glad I bought it. I wish the only problem I had at this point was related to the ABB.....I hope you all have a Safe & Goodtime Sunday.
Its been awhile....
Busy with work and so forth, its been interesting for certain.
Jim, good to read about your Dad. I felt all along he would come thru the procedure better than he went in, and its good to read his progress.
Gregg's book in my opinion is a reflection of fact laced with emotion laced with rumor laced with the haze of drug, yadas ad naseum. All laminated on top of one another, you gain a certain perspective on people. In other words, people standing right next to Gregg observing the exact same behavior in someone would write about it differently had they had a different emotional base on the person. Facts aside, that is how I see this book from Gregg.
I actually enjoyed reading it, and shook my head many times at the antics of boys with way too many women and way too much time on their hands.
I wont change my opinion of Gregg nor Dickey because of what Gregg wrote; it offers insight into deep rooted sadness, anger, and distrust and some level of mutual respect that defines that vortex of dysfunctional....the very term that can be said about the ABB as a whole. So for me, it was OK to read about it, put it to bed, and say the drama will continue for a few more years when sadly the ABB founders will be passed on, then its all a part of history of that Band.
Its sad really when you consider these very fine musicians could not keep it together from a relationship perspective. But then again, they did not have to work on that because the business machine forced the hand. Gregg (and to a lesser extend Betts) really were the only ones who could produce a following outside the ABB so the ABB was and is the cash cow for folks like Claude, so they were forced to perform together in order to pay the bills and make tons of money. At the point the Band decided Betts was simply a "guitar player", rather than integral to the Band, then that was the time the Band ceased to be the ABB, and really a shell of its former self.
Personally, I will not change my opinion of Gregg or Dickey because of the book, but if there were any doubt before let it be known there will never be a reunion of any sort.
There is an old saying that when you point a finger at someone, you are pointing 3 fingers right back at yourself. Gregg has way too much personal baggage of his own, but has a better publicist than Dickey obviously :).
Have a good day.

69duane your rubber room is ready. And remember to take your medication. You know you get dillusional if you forget your meds.
Get off your knees at Greggs feet and wipe his juice off your chin 69Duane. 😆 Laughing my ass off at the fact that you swallow anything that Gregg and Butch puts out.
Gregg and Butch can say and write anything they want and you can believe anything you want. But, I've got a few words for you and them.
Elizabeth Reed, Revival, Blue Sky, Southbound, Jessica, Nobody Knows, Les Brers, NLTRW..........and the list goes on and on. Fact is, Dickey Betts wrote the musical book that is the ABB.
They and you can't take that away from him. One damn thing for sure is under the helm of that mean ol' beer drinking, coke snortin', bad attitude, hard headed Betts, they had their most success. Guess you've forgotten about all that.
Hey, its fine if you love the current abb. It's fine if you think they are better than any configuration that Betts was in. I think you are dead wrong and one thing that is a fact, because I've seen it w/ my own two eyes. The current abb have to do a double bill at the summer sheds w/ bands like Phil & Friends, Widespread Panic, Tom Petty, The Doobie Bros, Moe, Santanna, Skynyrd etc. to put the meat in the seats that they used to do on their own w/ Betts at the helm. Fact!!!!
Now run off and get your groove on to Gold Dust Woman, Needle and the Damage Done, Dazed and Confused, and the like. Thank goodness the Allmuletrucks band are smart enough to still play all of the Betts penned tunes so it will somewhat resemble an ABB show.
Betts may be a lot of things and he may have his demons and faults, but he sure did make the ABB their most successful. Thank God he stepped up after the death of Duane. Who was gonna do it Gregg(understandable given his grief and sadness)? Butch?
So-called, forgetful, sh*t stirring fans like you are truly pathetic. It also appears that many on the blue site are pretty damned disappointed at what Gregg and Butch continue to spew. Sorry boys, but you can't rewrite history. Frankly you should give Dickey a call and thank him for carrying your a*s all those years and helping to make you filthy rich.
😆 The truth will set you free indeed.
Oh yeah, that was great about him being the only living brother that was never able to make much on his own. Congrats man, that might be the dumbest thing I've read all year. I kinda expect that from you though.
Just finished my copy of Gregg's new book, then threw it in the trash. What a waist of money and no wonder Dickey didn't show for the 40th at the Beacon or the life time grammy. I wouldn't want to be around a couple of pricks like Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks either.
I would NEVER see the ABB again after so many years of being such a devoted fan dating back to 1970. I think I would puke if I did or punch Gregg in the liver.
Thanks Jim and Rainy for the Kind words. Today we celebrate Life as we are going to the local Relay For Life. Our Daughter Sarah is a volunteer and we are taking our new Granddaughter Avery Jo with us. We will take her on the first lap of the survivors walk. Life is good!!!! Peach.

Good Afternoon Brothers and Sisters,
Hey Mitch, my wife is a teacher in Manhattan. I'm a nurseryman (I plant trees) from Indiana. She comes to the hoosier state in the summer and I come to NYC in the winter (and when Dickey plays!) By the way at roughly 4:20 pm on May 1, 2012 DBGS were launched into cyberspace via WFHB community radio here in B-town. They do have a worldwide audience so somewhere someone in this crazy mixed up world was hearing those sweet notes. Maybe for the first time. One of the DJ's is a big Dickey fan and he played "High Falls" from the show Saturday. I gotta tell ya, if the Fillmore shows are a 10 then this rendition of "High falls" is a 7 or 8. It will bring a tear to the eye for the more serious Dickheads (you have been warned). I think you can access it by going to: www.wfhb.org and looking at their set list on 5/1. Anyway, have a great week end all. Be safe. KLBazut
