I found both of tennkev's recent posts well-written, cogent, and on-topic for Gregg's latest fart on paper.
It's fascinating to read the recent back and forth. Almost without exception, folks are saying the same thing, 69Duane being the lone exception. On both this site, as well as the blue site.
I'm glad Gregg's health issues are getting addressed, but I'd no sooner send any of my hard-earned cash Gregg's way than I would Prine's. That the reports are of a book filled with self-serving bullshit is hardly surprising.
The ABB is better now than with Dickey? LOL!
And again 69Duane.........you certainly aren't the brightest star in the sky.
Your hero worship of Gregg has totally blinded you. That is exactly the point. People are reading Gregg's book, w/ Gregg's own words and are seeing that he IS indeed worse than they thought. Read some of the comments on the blue site.
Gregg sh*t the bed when he wrote this book. Hey, I still love 'um all, but they all f*cked up. They are all human, they all made mistakes. What is so hard to understand?
I sure hate to read all this crap slinging going on at both the ABB and DB&GS sites. Very disheartening. It IS about the music, after all. 🙁
Ha Ha Ha.... 69duane.... why don't you take your fag-ass over to the Justin Bieber guestbook. You'll have more luck finding like minded folks that are into your kind of music... gay rock.
And over any of the blue site folk. And over RedDog. And by basicly not having any common sense to realise that they are all to blame. Yes, Dickey included. But, you are too dumb to see.
But we all know that you do this to get your rocks off by stirring up sh*t and because somebody ripped you off.
😆 Hilarious is how much time you spend on such a sh*t stained website.
😆 Hilarious is how so many devoted Gregg/blue site folk are slamming your boy Gregg.
😆 Hilarious is what a dumb f*ck you really are, the way you take everything that Gregg says as the "gospel".
😆 Hilarious is that you are too damn dumb to see that there are two sides to every story. People are pointing out and exposing some very interesting things and you are too blind w/ Gregg juice in your eye to see.
😆 Hilarious indeed!!!
Prine, as usual, you are wrong. Many of these fine folk here have spent personal time with Dickey and other Band members, communicate with them directly, and so forth. Its because of your distance to the actual truth that you try, unsuccessfully, to tarnish anything and everything you touch in desperate hope someone will agree with you, on any matter much less that surrounding the ABB/Betts.
Clue to you dunce: Anyone really tuned in already knew the mindset of Gregg before the book was published. Reading the book will not offer new insight. All it does is add color to the landscape.
Sorry, Uranus. You are not in the loop on this one. Never have been, never will be.
blackey you NAILED it Brer<-------
don't forget claude's failed recording studio... which Dickey recorded part of Pattern Disruptive there.
Great post blackey!!! Just to add one thing. If it wasn't for Duane,Berry and Dickey we would have never heard of gregg and the little drummer boy. In my book thse to are losers who would use anyone to to get ahead.
🙂 Welcome back Rick .. and you to Blackley.. I agree..
The real reason any of this has happened is $$$$$ M O N E Y $$$$$ and DB has it :)... when they faxed him out of the band, he was smart enough to go get an attorney and sue them... more money spent wisely , to make more money $$$$$$
Jealousy and envy are what Gregory speaks about in his book... he just forgot to mention his own jealously and envy.... tsk tsk tsk..
Hey, read Big Anne's book A Never Ending Groove... life stories about her husband Johnny Sandlin... Thanks Anne, so well written and very enjoyable..;
:dog:  :inlove:
I agree with what Blackey has to say as well. To me, it makes alot of sense why things are the way they are between both sides. And I agree with the notion that the ABB was Dickey's band. Somebody had to take charge of the ship and thank God Dickey did. I guess I never really thought of ownership of the band until reading what Blackey had to say. I would also have to say what entitles Gregg to ownership of the band? He has spent most of his life in the bag and not being able to run much of anything. Blackey is right...Dickey was there before him and has been a real good business man. If your running a band and bad at business you might as well pack it up. We all know what would have happened if Claude was in charge...look at Moogis....
I have to agree with you Blackey, with one caveat; really, when you think about it, is this book actually a reflection of the Gregg we have come to know anyways? The same with Claude?
I was not surprised at all; Dickey has a target on his back for many reasons. His personality, his talent, his guitar playing, his attitude, his temper....he is no introvert, and so passive agressive types like Claude bring it on, from a distance of course.
But its Gregg's truth now. He has to live it and take that with him to his grave. The ABB is now drama-free, according to Gregg and Butch. Good for them. With no new albums ever coming from the Band, its recycle recycle for all of them frankly. At least Betts stays true to the the pretense he is not going to change.
All Betts can do is do his own thing and not worry about the ABB. If indeed he gets a cut from the Band, I hope le laughs his ass off all the way to the bank.
Gregg says that if he had taken over the band when Duane died, he would have FIRED Dickey Betts! Butch Trucks recently said "When Duane died, Dickey just took over and suddenly we were being run by a bully and tyrant and by the time we got to Brothers and Sisters, we really had become the Dickey Betts Band. As I look back, we should have fired Dickey years ago". Gregg once said the reason he did "Laid Back", his first solo album is because Dickey wouldn't allow "Queen of Hearts" to be on Brothers and Sisters. Gregg also says he never liked the Grateful Dead, never cared for The Marshall Tucker Band except for Toy Caldwell as a person but wouldn't give you five cents for the rest of them. Stole Duane Allman's cocaine just before Duane died and when Duane called and jumped all over his ass about it, he lied to his brother and said he didn't do it. The only positive thing I read about Dickey Betts in that rag of a book is that Dickey loved Duane very much and when Duane almost died of a drug overdose, Dickey was there STAT but Gregg didn't go. Said he couldn't move. There is NOT one world about the great songs and guitar playing that Dickey Betts brought to the ABB. Hell Dickey was IN the band before Gregg. Gregg was the last one to join and it was Dickey and Oakley who kept telling Duane that they needed his brother because the three of them really couldn't be the main singer. Also I clearly remember Gregg Allman being the one that was usually too drunk and too high to play a good concert. The same short boring organ solos and missed lyrics and at times, garbled words to songs to the degree that one really couldn't tell what he was singing. I knew because I knew the songs so well. And when Betts & Butch Trucks got fed up with Gregg over the Scooter Herring deal and claimed they would never work with him again, it was Dickey who allowed Gregg to talk to him at a Jimmy Carter bash and Dickey decided Gregg's back was against the wall and admitted he didn't fully understand what had happened and told Gregg he would work with him again! Butch was not interested but it was Dickey who went over to Butch's and played him "Crazy Love" and told Butch that he would make sure Gregg would cut the gig this time and let's put the band back together! Why in the hell did these two men who hated Dickey so much and wished that he would have been fired after Duane passed jump at the chance to work with him again and put their marbles on "Crazy Love" being another payday like Ramblin' Man was? Then when Dickey decided to do a country album in the early 80's and put the ABB on hold as he felt the ABB had fallen out of style and Gregg put the Gregg Allman Band together with Dan Toler and they finally got a gold album in 1987 and things were starting to click and they we getting out of the club circuit, Gregg shocked Dan Toler just as the Gregg Allman Band was doing so well and told him he was going to join Dickey in the ABB and was leaving. Why? If Gregg really thought Dickey should have been fired in 1971, why allow this man, Dickey Betts, to pluck you out of your own band that was starting to turn the corner and go back to the ABB? Dan Toler has questioned Gregg's judgment and loyalty on that in several interviews and that must be why Dan is never invited to be on stage with the ABB now. Gregg was finished with Dan Toler, so he threw him away! Dickey said the 1989 tour in support of The Dreams boxset was just a test run as Sony wanted an album but Dickey felt they should do a tour and see if there was anything there as the last two albums had hurt their image and then he gave the go ahead to do a new album and tour again on an on going basis and Gregg and Butch went alone with that. Why were these men hooking themselves to Betts? NOW REMEMBER, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THEY THREW IN WITH DICKEY BETTS RUNNING THE ABB!! Is it because at the time they felt the ABB wouldn't work and be successful WITHOUT Dickey? I think so. Both Gregg AND Butch KNEW just the two of them and adding Jaimoe too, wouldn't cut it and they needed Dickey's signature guitar and his song writing (Dickey at this time wrote several with Warren but you can tell Dickey is a big part of those songs) to have the best chance of the Allman Brothers being successful in 1990!! Also they all went along with Dickey in 1978 in adding Dan Toler and Rook Goldflies to the band and in 1989 Dickey wanted Warren Haynes and the guys granted their votes again. And what about Dickey firing Jaimoe in 1980? I think it is probably true that Dickey was tired of Jaimoe not playing a full show and only making himself available for THREE cuts on Reach For the Sky due to his back problems. (on a personal note, I didn't like Jaimoe being pushed out & refused to see the ABB in 1981 & 82 & only bought Brothers of the Road after they put the band on hold as they put it in 1982 so I could see how it sounded.)But the fact is that nothing could and can change in a big way in the Allman Brothers without ALL of the members voting. Butch admitted that as soon as he played one show with David Toler as the other drummer, Toler kept playing what Butch wanted to play or played it before Butch could get a stick to a drumhead, that he was sorry he voted with the other guys to cut Jaimoe. And finally that rag I threw in the trash by Gregg Allman claims that he and Butch agreed with Jaimoe that the only way a "brother" can get out of the band is to die or quit, so they didn't fire Dickey at all. They simply told Dickey to take the summer off and get his act straight and return to them in a meeting in the fall but Dickey hired a lawyer and took them to court and demanded to be paid for his contributions to the band, dumped a pile of tapes on the floor and said "it is fantastic" and the arbitrator said "the Allman Brothers?" and Dickey said "no! ME!" Gregg never revealed what Dickey got in the settlement and I'm now of the opinion they have to share their income with Dickey and that may be a big reason they are still so pissed at him. But whatever happened, Gregg wrote that Jaimoe said at the end of arbitration: "I guess Dickey quit". So Gregg says Dickey didn't get fired, he quit... but it was best that we went on without him. Also when Derek Trucks joined the band, I still have an interview Butch and Gregg did and Butch said "Also having Derek in the band has really inspired Dickey. Dickey is playing the best right now he has in years!". Anyone who saw any of the shows in 1999 (I saw four) knows that Dickey, who was playing his old 56 Fender then for some reason, was playing GREAT lead guitar. That he and Derek played great together that entire tour. It wasn't until the next year that Dickey seemed to have some ups and downs but then, to me, it wasn't as sever as what I've seen from Gregg Allman over the years!!
This story is all about resentment over who is the boss and money. Not about anybody being a jerk or being too drunk to play. Through the history of the ABB, there has always been someone too drunk to play. And Gregg Allman has been a jerk to many people during Duane's lifetime and through the years. I've heard plenty even from fans who walked up to a drunk and drugged Gregory and he pulled that PRICK, I'm a rock star bullshit on them! That was really Gregg in the 1970's!Butch recently told the press that Duane came to his room and complained that when Dickey plays you really back him up and lay it down and when I play you let up and give me nothing! And Butch said "I looked Duane in the eye and told him that it was because Duane wasn't giving anything for me to jump on". And Butch said that was when he thought Duane backed off on doing a lot of drugs before the band played and suddenly Duane was playing like his old self. And from the earliest years to the mid to late 90's, Gregg Allman was often TOO DRUNK TO PLAY!! And Butch admitted it and said "when Gregg was on stage drunk, we just turned down his organ and played more songs that didn't have him singing. But Dickey was in the middle of the stage and played solos on everything so we had to get him out of there".
This book and Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks are just jealous of Dickey and the fact that he wrote most of the songs and made more money than they did off the ABB. That is all it is. And I hope I'm right that Dickey is still getting a decent cut of what the ABB pulls in and THAT is the reason Gregory and Claude are still so P. Oed about Dickey Betts.
Gregory and Claude saw the ABB shelved twice before 1989 and BOTH TIMES THEY JUMPED AT THE CHANCE OF PLAYING IN THE ABB WITH THE SAME DICKEY BETTS WHO WAS RUNNING THE SHOW AND WRITING MOST OF THE SONGS THAT WERE PUTTING THE ABB OUT FRONT! Crazy Love, Blind Love, Sail Away (with Gregg at the beginning saying "let's dedicate this to the two brothers", True Gravity, Seven Turns, Kinda Bird, Desert Blues, Bad Rain, Back Where It All Begins, Change My Way of Living etc. Gregory and Claude got comfortable that the ABB could survive without Betts and because Betts was the boss & no doubt rubbed them the wrong way several times over the years and he ran the band the way he felt would insure success, they decided to dump Dickey. Originally Butch posted on the blue site that he was going to quit the band because of Dickey and then Gregg found that out from Gregg's wife speaking with Butch's wife and told Butch's wife that Gregg was leaving too because of Dickey. That is when they called Jaimoe to sack Dickey for good but Jaimoe wouldn't do it and said "the only way a brother can leave is to die or quit" so they brokered a deal with Jaimoe for Dickey to take the summer off because they would refuse to do the summer of 2000 tour with Dickey. They sent Dickey a fax that was worded hatefully "we will not need your services for the summer tour" etc etc. But I understand Betts was told that they would meet with him in the fall and it indicated Dickey needed to get help for substance abuse. Dickey called Gregg and Gregg hung up on Dickey several times telling Dickey to listen to the f****** tapes. Gregg says in the book that Dickey said "you are firing me from my own band" as if Gregg is saying that Dickey's view was Gregg was in DICKEY'S BAND and it wasn't a partnership.
And why would I want to see what calls itself the ABB today? I get pissed off when they play Dickey's songs which is something Claude said they would stop doing in a couple of years back in 2001 as they get more new songs into the sets. But no! Now they are even doing Blue Sky WITH THE WORDS! Then we get to hear "The Night The Drove Old Dixie Down" and other songs that aren't connected to the historic Allman Brothers that are COVERS! NOT original songs written after Dickey left. And THIS is the Allman Brothers? Well count me out. And I've been out. I walked out on the ABB several years ago & wouldn't see what WAS my favorite band now if they played in my backyard for free!
It is all about jealousy and bitterness. Gregg and Butch finally turned on Dickey just as Gregg turned on many in the past including about 24 wives! This book spend a lot of time bashing Dickey & trying to show Dickey's warts and faults but after reading it, one sees just how f***** up Gregory Allman has been and is. I guess if it hadn't been for Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, Gregory would have been in the poor house years ago! What has he done that he hasn't screwed up and when has he done anything that has earned him a living that really wasn't Gregg being a slacker and riding on another man's back?
:freaked: Wow, Gregg is catching a lot of sh*t about his book on the blue site. Go get 'um 69Duane 😆 . Some very good points by some folks over there.
RIP Goober Pyle

....what TennKev said. Perfect.
Prine, the dunce factor in you never ceases to amaze me.
Folklore? Those cats made tons of money from the Brotherhood. Their own branding defines the concept. Songs were penned and performed by the Brotherhood, about the Brotherhood. You dismiss the very core of Duane, Berry and Red Dog when you make comments like that.
If anyone is distant, its you Uranus. I presume because you were never accepted by Dickey, you dismiss both he and the concept. I guess I would act the same way if shunned.
The truth is clear. Just like you pouncing on Betts after Gregg's book came out, predictibility is your middle name, Slurpee.
Sending out love, thoughts, and prayers to Brother Nic. I hope you are doing ok Bro. I'll give you a ring today and hope I can catch up w/ you.
69Duane, once again you have proven yourself to be a total idiot. Eddie Van Halen being fired from his own band that is named after he and his brother? Gregg Allman being fired from a band that is named after he and his brother? Dude remove your head from your rectum. Of course this is hypothetical and I doubt this would ever happen but, I would not be a bit surprised if Gregg were to die and the current members of the abb were to continue touring as the abb, it would still be somewhat successful. Look at Skynyrd, the Feat, the Dead etc.. A lot of folks seemed to enjoy the last Beacon show w/o Gregg and the two Wanee performances w/ limited Gregg involvement.
So of course they are gonna be a bigger draw than DB & GS because of name alone. However, I have experienced first hand by talking to people at shows, both DB & GS and the current abb, that a lot of folks certainly miss what Dickey brought to the table.
The name in itself is gonna be a draw because of the longevity and music catalogue of the band. A lot of music fans are as clueless as you and probably don't even know about Duane, Berry, Lamar, Chuck, Dickey, Danny etc., and are going to hear music, party, and hopefully have a good time.
While I think it is a drag, a shame, and truly sucks, and while Dickey was my favorite player in the ABB it is not the firing of Betts that bothers me the most. I've stated many times the ALL of them have given me a lot of joy and good times. Obviously, they felt like they couldn't work together anymore. Fine......sh*t happens......people grow apart.
What bothers me is the cowardly, piss poor way they went about it. That and the continuous and unnecessary comments over the last 12 years. Good God, we all know how they feel about Dickey. But anyone that has been a life long fan of the band and has seen/heard/read about/experienced what Betts has done in the band is appreciative and respect what he has done for that band. Well, except for stupid folk like you.
