Rainy, my first time hearing the ABB was on either WPLJ/WABCFM (same station, name changed at one point or another) or WNEW, I don't know which as I listened to both and both were progressive radio stations in NYC and I grew up in Bergen County, New Jersey, right nearby.
I also remember hearing Duane play live in the studio at WPLJ with Delaney and Bonnie, prior to hearing the ABB play there. I don't know if that recording is floating around somewhere?
Like I mentioned, I recall the ABB playing live there too. I think that was a few months after Live At The Filmore was recorded.
WNEW and WABCFM both teamed up and worked together to broadcast the closing night of the Filmore East, which was really indeed! I don't remember all of the acts that night, but Frank Zappa and the Mothers were one and the ABB closed out the show. I know that recording is in circulation.
I also recall waking up one morning and WNEW DJ Dave Herman was handed a note to which he said half off the mic "oh, this isn't funny" then "What, it's true? Really?" He then announced the passing of Duane Allman.
Of course during these years both stations were playing the ABB.
My first live concert was at RFK in '73, then saw them several weeks later at Watkins Glen, where we arrived a week early. Both of those gigs were with the Grateful Dead.
Just a reminder to my DB Brothers and Sisters..the JFD has some shirts available to help with our expenses. We would appreciate folks helping out so we can continue. Have L, XL, and XXL.
Thanks for the support to go on. 38 years! jamming for Duane.
🙂 .......good stuff Rainygirl!!
Hope everyone going to the upcoming shows has a good ol' time this weekend.
TGIF
Just thought I'd share a memory I had of the ABB.
Over on the ABB someone started a topic where were you when you first heard the ABB..
So that got me thinking about my own and here it is..
It was I think April 73' Nassau Col.
We had seats on the main floor but back in the those days you could move around and not be subjected to sit quietly in your seat.. as the show was under way before we got there .. running late I guess.. I was pulled in by this music.. as we eased our way up front .. I was in a trance listening to this music, my best friend Pat was going to get a closer look at that organ player Gregg the brother of Duane .. I now stopped , close enough but more because I just wanted to stop pushing my way forward and just listen... I finally said to the guy standing next to me.. wow I said who is that guitar player and he turned and said Man, that's Dickey Betts... I knew this was important and I had to ask again as it was very loud in there and I wanted to make sure I got his name right.. I said What was his name.. Dickey Betts he said again with a huge smile.. I repeated that name to myself at least a dozen times .. wow oh wow..I watched as Dickey had command of that stage and with his fingers on those guitar strings that looked as if they might be attached to his heart somehow.. and the sound and feelings came right up through his tippy toes and bended knees.. amazing I tell ya and then there was the bass.. Lamar... another wow.. and the piano player was just fantastic.. I was in awe. In the back there were 2 drummers and Oh MY.. that had a back beat unlike anything I ever heard. I really understood what "getting the music " was at this concert. As I watched all these guys who actually looked like my friends did.. It looked as if they just stepped out of the audience and began playing these instruments.. very relatable .. I knew I had found the something I was looking for. This music was charged with sexual undertones and a rhythm that was undeniable, their explosive jams that took you on a musical magic carpet ride... I felt like I was flying and my feet never left the floor.. I looked around and it was as if everyone there had the same thoughts and feelings.. WOW oh WOW... I was hooked..
that is just the beginning of the magical journey of this music..
Thank you ABB.. and especially to Dickey Betts. :inlove:

:a-ok:
Happy Friday! Hope everyone is doing well today
Duane has a nice shot from the soundcheck at the beacon on his facebook page. Thanks to all for the photos and videos. What a night 😉
Hey all,
Been at sea for a week and I return to land to find that my hero had replanted his boots with Derek, Susan, and the other lucky folks who witnessed the NY show. Dickey seems comfortable. I am also proud and a bit giddy by the irony of how "Love Is All That Remains The Same, That's What's It's all Comin To". Thanks to Mr Brock for the vids, and I concur with the band comments. It's a good time to be here.
We have br'er David Spero to thank for that classic shot in the Green Room at the Beacon.
Nice picture on the homepage...I'm guessing this was backstage before the show on Saturday?
Roll call for Chicago!
Love, Kimberly
It was a great surprise to see the clips with Dickey & TTB... Loved it!

Oh Thanks for the reminder about DB playing with Derek before.. I did, as many here know that.. But , 10 yrs has past since then and it seems like now was a good time for this to happen.. All Good 🙂
Enjoy the article
I like to joke around but the bottom line here is that Derek and Susan are all about the music and not bitter,self-righteous,judgemental people like two members of the ABB currently are! I also hold out hope of a reunion someday and hope it happens before it's too late!
As I am drinking my morning coffee 🙂 and visiting my favorite place, here :inlove: ..I had a thought and a feeling of Thanks towards Duane and Pedro because I believe they were the driving force behind the DB appearance at the TTB show.. Not that Derek would not have done that on his own ..but I believe Duane encouraged his Dad only in a way that a son can. With the encouragement also coming from Pedro and perhaps all of GS.. Spilling over to Derek and Susan..
In reality it doesn't matter how it happened..it happened..
But Big Thanks to Duane and Pedro.. if nothing else I loved watching you both on side stage.. chills I tell ya, chills... 🙂
it's times like this I miss Red Dog the most , Elizabeth, Bill Ector, Randy and all who have past that woulda loved this moment in musical history.

Picture is on Homepage. I think posted from Brock.
Good Morning all :sunny:
I am just the messenger in regarding pictures and videos.. I love to share with those on GB because some never venture past here. The credit always goes to the people who take these fantastic photos and great videos who had the lucky experience of being there.
The first videos of Derek , Susan with DB were posted in Forum Anything goes by Brock. There are other videos now and when I post I will try to get their names as well.
So BIG Thanks to them. There is a great picture of Derek Dickey and Susan in the ABB forum and I was not able to copy and post here . I believe it was from Jim.. go take a look.
With all the BAD vibes in the world with either just trying to find peace and harmony ,the destruction of the economic growth , the criminal escapes around the world, the environment pollution destruction, well I could go on and on ..
To have this one moment of musicians extending themselves to each other for the LOVE of music and having respect for each other , well it warms my heart and soul and renews some faith in mankind for me. A small gesture but with huge meaning.
I hope we get to hear and experience more of this in the future.
The original ABB were once young men with a dream of creating music in their own way. It captured a lot of people back in the day. I was one of them. Nothing would be better than to see the new ABB with the 4 original men on stage once again.
Dreams do come true, sometimes.
