"My" Allman Brothers Band has always been about at least two of its surviving members. It has always been the writing of Gregg and Dickey.
I am not saying that Dan, Warren, Derek or anyone were not great artists. My feeling is only that if you don't have Gregg and Dickey writing on a studio release of an Allman Brothers Band album/CD... not exclusively...It is not an ABB release.
Just my opinion, everyone has one.
It was always the ying and yang of Dickey and Gregg penned songs ...the soul and spirit of their songs combined with the chemistry of the brothers was the grits.
No Gregg and Dickey and it is a different band... Maybe not better or worse... but not the ABB... Just my take on it.

Hey, Sam! Great to see you! You've been missed.
High falls!!!
All I know is Brethren of the Coast are comin' up over the horizon. Hope those guys can get some stuff recorded soon!
"My" Allman Brothers band is one that has always transcended any individual member of the band. It has always been about the music and the spirit in which it is played. The band that carried forward to do great things when Duane died as well as after Dickey was let go. The pedigree of guitar players in this band goes on for miles, all of which are great players in their own rights. All of them.
Your mileage may vary.

Scroll all the way to the end of the home page for some great history of the ABB here in the Crescent City...
Breaking ground on, A Warehouse, monument soon.
Grand opening will feature some music...I wonder who they will try to get to play ? :yep:
I agree pintobean...
But is it also true that they are talking about recalling all of the Hittin the Note CD's, and reissuing them as the artists being, "The Allman Mule Truck"
It gives me an instrumental Illness that folks are listening to it and thinking that it is my Allman Brothers Band.
Singin While I'm :walk:

Well, in just a few short months the whole superfluous dispute is going to be a moot point anyway, so have at it while you can.
That ABB show the other night at Mountain Jam was all the evidence I needed to tell me that Band is done. Haynes and Trucks aren't bringing it to the ABB. They said they wanted it to go out on top but neither of them is doing anything to make it happen. It was a listless passionless effort. They ought to just cancel the rest of their shows and be done with it. In the final analysis, from the get go it was coming right to where we are now anyway - Dickey Betts & Great Southern and Gregg Allman & Friends.
Bands come and bands go. Unless you've ever been in a band, it's hard to understand how petty little conflicts between fiercely independent creative people can escalate into major incompatibility problems. Now Gregg, Dickey, Derek, and Warren each have their own shows which they control. They can hire and fire and keep things as they want them to be without having to "go along to get along." Maybe it will be better.
Gotta love that last line, thanks for posting that bayoubluesrat!
Hello all my fellow Dickheads and Diskheadresses...feeling a little melancholy today.
Think I will throw in some Betts for the ride home...nothing like that guitar to cure any ill...
I know I have posted this a few times over the years but here it is again:

He sings with his fingers and plays through his heart.
He lifts the crowds spirits…He is nature’s ambassador.
We have all come to see him, one more time
So he can take us to a place far away
Those who know his music are fortunate for sure
His songs are a potion, a medicine, a cure.
He can turn a rainy day, into a walk in the park
In a smoke filled nightspot…
…you can sense the smell of clovers on a warm Sunday morning
As Jessica rises to unbounded heights.
The faces in the crowd are in awe at the sights
The hat, the scarf, the redtop in hand...it is Mr. Betts, and his Allman Brothers Band.
Maybe not; for no matter the line up, the venue, the occasion.
That first note he hits is his signature…there are no substitutes.
A blind man would notice from a balcony down the street
Hey, that’s Dickey Betts!
He is who he is…the composition….the tone…the style.
In comments I’ve read on the Grammys last week.
They talked of the tribute to the genre called, “Southern Rock”.
They said, “How can this be” ? No Allman Brothers Band…..with open mouth !
Wasn’t one of their titles, “The Pride of the South”.
Now let me tell you all, “The Pride of the South”, was well represented on this
special night.
By the man who gave them everything for such a long time.
He gave them his music, his feeling, and he lifted their fans
And without Dickey Betts…there is no Allman Brothers Band.
Now THAT would be a hell of a show, Capn! I think most folks would be astonished how fantastic BOTC is! No slight on Duane but the versatility of Pedro is off the charts. These two guys are ready to take flight!
#* standard disclaimer just My Opinion...
Dickey will play as long as he can, he loves it... 200 peeps at a local fundraiser... NYC/NJ?CT weekends with Friends & Family....
for $ 20K ( mostly travel expenses ) you could get DB & GS in Cali with Pedro & Duane ( brethren of the coast ) as openers
It ain't the fame & fortune... it is the LOVE of the ART....
( sounds like Duane & Berry ? )
Jonesy, I'm with you, but I get the impression that Dickey is doing what he wants to do these days. He's not scrambling to get back on top, he's just rolling along playing some music and doing all the other things he likes to do, so I sort of doubt he'll do anything like try to satisfy market demand if you know what I mean. But maybe with the ABB out of the way, some of the bigger festivals will come calling on him and give him the opportunity to upgrade his opportunities and exposure a little bit. Who knows? Good post and great topic for discussion.
I have a feeling that as the ABB winds down (apparently), fans of the band will be looking to Dickey and GS as the "fix" they need for all things ABB. With the recent glowing reviews of Dickey's shows, i wouldn't be surprised if there is a heightened interest in DB and GS.
Warren and Derek have clearly found their own path and voice through Govt Mule and the TTB, and both of those bands REALLY SMOKE, in my opinion....but they are so different from the ABB sound (unlike bands like Phil and Friends and Ratdog who continue the GD legacy in their own way). So....i sure hope Dickey plays a few more shows than he has scheduled.

I enjoyed reading all the previous comments and found none to be offensive....
My mom always said " You can disagree without being disagreeable "
Dobro, you said it all. I saw lots of great stuff over the weekend, but the ABB seemed anticlimactic. I read a post on the blue site by either Lefty Collins or Alan Paul saying that if those guys in the ABB still wanted to keep on playing together that's what they would do. But they're not, so I guess it's gone as far as it can go. So, nice as it sounds in the Midnight Rider, the road does not go on forever - not for ABB, not for me.
I certainly enjoyed the streaming Mtn Jam, and am grateful for the promoters for the free stream. Video quality was excellent, and camera work showed the relevant shots without jumping to a different view every two seconds. This is my opinion, and not meant to offend anyone.....I was able to catch TTB, Mule, and ABB. TTB was, for me, the highlight. Susan sings with class and confidence. The rest of the band is an amazing compliment to her and Derek. With Govt Mule, Hanes spread his diverse singing talent all over the spectrum. To be blessed with such a soulful voice and also be able to smolder his guitars is a treat to witness.
As for the ABB, it just seemd a bit tired. The soloing guitarists will ignite any tune they play, but the stage presence and other elements appear more static then years past. I remember times when they would just shovel the energy to the crowd. Still, any time we hear a live show, we are blessed. Thanks to all those, and especially Dickey, who are still out there bringin it to the fans. I'm getting older, dang it and just miss the good ol days!
I hope everybody's well!
You are welcome PintoMan! On another note, on ABB site did a Hep C thread that started way over 10 years ago (and been dormant for years). Someone just wrote me who dug it up, read it all and made it through treatment last year and it helped them. Point is, while we can use the net to yak, argue, have fun, pontificate, we can also use the net for bigger purpose. Made my day!
Thanks, Tony!
