And for the record, I've heard several versions of Warren singing Blue Sky with AMT, and he does a beautiful job with his soft voice. Really nice!
Neil, It's a fun song to cover because people don't expect it. My friend and I play it with the harmony throughout but he plays both solos because I'm not a good lead player. We're working on a two man Jessica, too. Neither one is anywhere near Dickey, but you can always dream!
For what it's worth, years ago I was in a band that covered Blue Sky - we added a pedal steel to the instrumental mix and a 5-part round at the end.
It still wasn't close (but it was good).

Let me first admit to BIAS... I like Warren, we go back to DBB mid 80s... BUT
If I can't hear Dickey Sing it (Blue Sky) then any/all "covers" are good at best... Frankie Covered it well Vinoy when Dickey was sick.... Kim Betts and her band (s) cover it well ( especially when pop sits in)

It will be interesting to hear which style of Blue Sky Warren played last night.
Warren has played Blue Sky with Dickey starting way back in the late 80s in both the upbeat "power" and acoustic versions.
Of anyone other than Dickey, Warren would be my choice to cover Blue Sky.
Nobody can play the tune like Dickey because Dickey's style and tone are almost unique.
The recording will tell.

For some reason I didn't really like this guy's music too much the first time around but I'm really digging him now - especially since one of his best tunes was featured in a Breaking Bad episode.
Happy's post talked about "walkin the walk" which made me think about "walkin the line" which I thought was the name of this tune. Well, anyway...
