Saturday night with nuthin' to do so I watched a DVD somebody sent me a while back ...Saturday Night in Macon. What a piece of history. From the logo repeatedly shown, I guess it was a special for Don Kirschner's rock concert. It's a vague memory for me. However..for those who've never seen it, you gotta get it. For those who have...watch it again. Wet Willie and Marshall Tucker are at the top of their game. Looks like the Douglas Theatre. A special place. Toy is marvelous. Those dangerously long fingernails pickin' and brother, Tommy, thumping along. Jerry tootin' his horn. Doug sings like a soaring eagle. Martin Mull is, well, Martin Mull. LOL. But, The Allman Brothers Band. Thoughts....Gregg didn't manage to wash OR blow dry his hair and screwed up the words to Ain't Wastin' Time No More, but he was what he was at the time. Gregg will always be Gregg. He was better before this and he's even better recently. Now, Dickey was special and that's why I'm postin' this here and not THERE. He was at the point where he'd mastered Duane's slide the best he could and it was damn good. Chuck was tinkling the ivories like only Chuck can, wearing that ole straw hat he used to sport. It was that point in time where he and Dickey almost filled the void left by the loss of Duane. Dickey is focused (even the camera work catches this) and bordering on perfection. Jaimoe is hot and sweaty and wearing his animal teeth necklace looking as purty as only he could. Lamar is strong and supportive....driving bass. And, every once in awhile, you catch a glimpse of this red headed, long hair walking around, working, fixing this and that, and this and that. Me and my cat, Moon, are finished dancing and are going to bed. It was Saturday Night in Macon here on Long Island.

LOL, yes it's a two season process (the tan, ie). And, yes, Rainy, that IS his poker face; he the fourth best poker player in Macon, Georgia and he's not shy about letting you know! The only time he's ever smiled with his teeth showing in a picture is on the inside of Brothers and Sisters. No joke. Red Dog's smile is, well, Red Dog's smile - wide and bright. As I recall, he wasn't smiling on the inside picture of Brothers and Sisters. He had on his "I'm baaaaad" face. And he was! LOL. 😉

Went to Gathering of the Vibes in Bridgeport, CT last nite, Bobby Weir and Phil in Further were jamming from 9:00 until 3:00 am...all the hippies were twirling around and festival happenings all around...Jerry's spirit was felt again last nite through the music and song and "he's gone......nothing's gonna bring him back"...was filling the summer nite air on the water... Have a nice day everyone!

So a few days ago I was up in a special place, a huge valley nestled in the mountains between hills and peaks all around, probably a couple of miles long and a mile wide, a green jewel of a meadow with a snaking series of creeks all meandering through it. Some solid ground, some cat tail wetlands. All green and full of birds making music. Timbered hills every direction surrounding, a blue sky and a breeze.... And I saw something in the sky...... It was a sight I have never seen. Four big bald eagles in a thermal, all going in the same rotation, one behind the other all in a circular line... all right over me only a few hundred feet above at best, it was surreal. They saw something on the valley floor to hunt maybe, but after a couple of minutes of their aerial ballet they lost interest, and they split off the formation and headed south down the length of the meadow to where it necked down betwen two peaks, and they were gone, called by some unknown call...

Red Dog, I know you thought going to war was over. But you must do one more battle. The meds are your weapon. A sharp mind is your other one. Togethor they have dragon slaying powers. I did 117 weeks in the heavy med trenches, and in a nutshell that is my advice. Make it WAR. Nothing less than Ali vs Frazier mental and physical toughness. Visualization, imagery, mind conditioning, I used it all in my battle and believe in it and credit it in my winning. Godspeed Brother.

Just got home and in the mail was this beautiful picture of Willie P. and Red Dog that I think was taken by Jodie. I HAVE to get my scanner together so I can post this. Correction, so I can scan it, send it to someone else and have THEM post it. 😉 57. Or, maybe I should try it myself? Whaddaya think Chris? Dare I take the chance. Maybe....all I can do is fail and then, EMAIL!!! Ooooh, another idea, JODIE!!! Is this your picture? Could you post it if it is?

Good evening Brothers and Sisters, Back home in Indiana...I think Warren and Woody's last year w/the ABB was in 1997. They left after the Beacon run that spring? Woody, you are missed! Has it been one week since the show in NYC? It came to me while on the way home that Dickey did something during "Jessica" I've never seen. Right when it was time for the piano solo to come in,or right after it started, Dickey looked over at Mike, lifted his arms up and made a banging motion like he was really hitting the keys. Kind of saying to Mike this is how you need to hit it (no offense Mike, your great). So I have been thinking, even though Dickey has probably played "Jessica" a million times he still wants to have it played as he envisioned it way back in 1973...sweet. As for the show, how about...Good show, Bad sound, Cut finger. safe travels. KLBazur

Good evening and TGIF!!! Damn it's been a crazy week. Sending out love and good vibes to all, especially our Red Dog and Capn seems like he could use some, too. Hope you get the good news you want to hear.

I believe that picture was taken by Twiggs in 1970, riding down the road in the Winnie. One of the few times I was not driving. I am riding shot gun. I wonder who was driving? Maybe the Oak? He liked to drive the Winnie once and awhile.

I would also add that time was "free love". HIV killed that deal. Somewhat ::)

Lady of the Rain, very noice video. Brings back memories, of not just music bonding people together but a way of life, the spirit of individualism. Being able to dress with expression. The days of the long hair, was a very special time in history. We had it all, for awhile. Once the money grubbers and heavy drugs came into the movement we were a lost cause. The memories of the spirit, still lives on, but has gone back to the underground. It like a seed falling from a tree and waiting for the right conditions to happen, to spring back to life.

The Warren & Woody period is probably the most special to me (1991(?) till they departed for mule full time)... as I was not old enough to see the original (will be 45 on the 9th) In 1994 the band headlined the Horde festival and the show they put on in columbus that night is still magical to me... Dickey & Warren were the true definition of "shock & awe" that evening. There performance was the main catylst for my first guitar purchase a few weeks later.
