Sweet! Here is a cool article about a new Larry McCray album due out. Larry McCray is quite a blues guitarist and has some nice history with the ABB.
Here is the link:

Here is also a cool snip-it of the article. Can't wait to hear the album!
As mentioned before, Larry had a bit of help with some of these tunes too. His band, made up of his brother Steve on drums, Noel Neal on bass and Johnny Neel on keyboards, got a hand from not only Trucks, but Widespread Panic axeman Jimmy Herring on "Wild Horses" and Los Lobos' David Hidalgo for Gregg Allman's "I'm No Angel." But the guest spot that stands out the most is former Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts taking over Marshall Tucker Band's "Can't You See" and giving it a drive and energy that puts it on par with the more subdued original. McCray still can't believe he was able to bring in some of his favorite players to join him in recording his favorite songs.

Good stuff Brother Tyler!!!
Hope everyone has a great time tonight.
I have to agree with Peachmaniac and Brother Capn.
I became a fan of the Brothers in the 1990's and got tickets to see them at the Madison Blues Festival. I believe it was the day before Allan Woody passed. It would be my first ABB show. I was so bummed out weeks before and contemplated going because I had heard that Dickey had been booted. I decided to go anyways. Needless to say I was very disappointed. They did play some songs that night I am not sure they played much since then so that was the only positive I took from it.
I did not give up on them though and attended many shows after the split but it didn't have the same feeling. I think Jimmy, Warren, and Derek are the cream of the crop these days. Some of the best out there. But for me it also came down to that tone, that feeling, the way Dickey played those notes. NO ONE CAN TOUCH THAT as hard as they try.
During the years I saw the Brothers I was able to catch Dickey's show as well and one summer I was able to catch both the ABB and Dickey the same week. What I realized was that as much as I wanted to love the ABB and their retooled lineup, it did not give me the same pleasure that a DB & GS show gave me. Which made me think that Dickey is what I always like about the Allman Brothers. I can see where other folks differ and maybe it's Greggs vocals that do it for them. I think Gregg is a hell of a vocalist but for me, Dickey is the man. He is the Allman Brothers to me.
Now that the ABB has hung it up, it's actually kind of a relief. I'm sure it is for Dickey as well. Dickey will continue doing what he does and I will continue to go out support what I always loved about the ABB prior to 2000.
Since the Allman Brothers and Dickey have moved on, I would hope that fans can move on as well and celebrate the awesome music made by ABB, and is continued to be made by Dickey instead of focusing on the negative that one here can change.

off to see the wizard... later gators

Ladies and Gentlemen it bears repeating.
DICKEY FUCKIN BETTS.
Tony not sure what that means but I'll assume it was a shot at me so go fck yourself.
Doubt I could pick you out in a crowd anyhow.
Don't you worry your pretty little head Terry, there ain't nobody there tonight I care to see besides the folks I arrive with and the band I paid to see. Have fun ahole.
I threw a pebble in a pond. Surprise at the ripples seems unaware of the universe.
yup maniac... I too went to see the "band" in june of 2000...drove 300 miles to Aberdeen, MD...totally agree re: Jimmy Herring... I left early and promptly gave away my tickets to Red Rocks for the 4th of july weekend... lo and behold the recipients left RR early too...
anyway, that is water over the dam...
TONIGHT, assuming I survive the beer bottle smashed in my face... I will look forward to Permagrin and fellow dickeyheads...starting in about 2 hours with some Pink Sutter Home....
Life is good... and, thanks to dickey, there will be More Toys for Tots
:yep:
I've always been a Dickey Betts fan and on May 15th,2000 when I heard about the split I was devastated and didn't know what to do. That summer I went to see the ABB at Great Woods and when they started playing Jessica I knew it would never be the same again. The guitarist was Jimmy Herring for that tour and don't get me wrong,Jimmy is an amazing guitarist as is Warren and Derek but Dickeys tone on certain ABB songs can NOT be replicated by ANY guitarist and thats why I support Dickey because he was the heart and soul of the Allman Brothers Band.
I am looking forward to tonight too but will be utilizing last night's costume/mask to avoid any unnecessary altercations with angry Dickey fans. See if ya can spot me Terry! 🙂
Looking forward to some Dickey Betts music tonight :guitar:
Hope Dickey does Hideway. Haven't heard him do it for quite sometime even if he didn't write it.
I think many of us are hoping he didn't mean it.
Dickey says what he means and means what he says:
Dickey Betts: "It’s almost like the Allman Brothers turned into an Allman Brothers Tribute Band"
In an interview with Ticket Sarasota, former Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts commented on the band’s retirement as well as his memories of Duane Allman. Betts, currently touring with his band Great Southern, said that the band’s retirement “makes it easier on my band because half their show is shit I wrote, which I do in my show now.”
Betts also went on to say, “I don’t have to do Gregg Allman songs. It will be easier as far as people understanding. I kind of question whether to say this or not, but it’s almost like the Allman Brothers turned into an Allman Brothers tribute band.”
The guitarist also fondly recalled his time with Duane Allman, saying, “Duane and I used to have a little wine and we’d sit and talk about how screwed up it is that every good band you get together, the guitar players start getting jealous of each other and start trying to hotdog out each other and ruin the whole thing. Duane and I had an understanding, like an old soul kind of understanding, of let’s play together. And then I wrote ‘Elizabeth Reed,’ and instead of Duane being jealous of it, he said, ‘That is the greatest thing, man.’”
Ned rolled his dictionary up and smoked it.
Sheep Lemmings or just damn fools??
"You know I have nothing against the Abb that played without Dickey but goddamn they sure milked their toadies dry. Those ticket prices they were extortion."
Huh? Were the shows sold out? I thought people bought tickets of their own free will
