I understand rajo. My grandmother suffered w/ dementia for the past 6 or 7 years. Thoughts and prayers to Margot and her man. Thoughts and prayers to DDT, Nic & Pam, Dream Lady, Kitty, Amy, Luke & Gina and all the great folks on this site.
Rainy, sorry to bring tears to your eyes but I was just telling you what was in my heart. You are the only person I go to with my innermost feelings because you are a special friends - one that can see inside my heart, one that loves me unconditionally, one who understands me like no other.
I, too, wondered about Dickey not showing up at Dan's benefit but he, Dan and Frankie had a serious falling out a few years back (it's actually more than that now - time is going faster these days). I don't know if they ever resolved their differences but I think Dickey believed that his presence would take the focus off where it belonged - on Danny.
I had my weekly visit at my favourite "saloon" yesterday.
Somebody Had Birthday,so
there was lot of coffee, gratis.
Got up quite late today, doin fine.
Many people to think of,,pray for...
In my family theres a case of dementia,Margot, hoping she and her
man still have good years to come.
Weather is good, really should get outside a little.
I,ve got my sail inside this beautiful, blue sky wind! Man,hey
Grass still grows,river still flows
🙂
And he said...
"I'm real thankful for having had "road schooling" really early. I learned music has nothing to do with how you move your hands and everything to do with what's in your heart."
-- Dickey Betts
Good morning Lizzie. Thanks for the Kind words sent my way. I hope you have a Goodtime day. The same goes for all of you here!!!!
I do not know why Dickey did not attend Rainy. I am sure there is a reason out there. I am glad so many reached out to Danny and showed him support, gave him the helping hand and the Love he deserves. Peach.
😮 edit button... I meant "would" I was nervous posting that last part of my GB post... second thoughts ???????
and Mr. Jim a beautiful picture...thanks for sharing
Good Morning to all the wonderful brothers and sisters who hang here , post here and to the non posters and lurkers too.. :sunny:
Thanks Lizzie for your kind words  they put a lump in my throat the size of Texas and tears in my eyes and I was barely even awake yet... having my coffee now, missing my friend Joseph on mornings like this.. We also had some very good conversations very early in the mornings.. on phone chats or on here...
he is missed but never forgotten... :dog:
Nic, what a beautiful story on the beginnings of a true friendship.. We all know you are loved and have a huge caring heart... But, you have given a window into who Dan is as a private person as well.. Thanks for sharing.. many , many prayers going out to Dan and yourself... May the light of Jesus shine on all of us in hours of need... Amen..
This might not be to cool in bringing this up, but as a fan I was wondering ???
I haven't seen this posted and I dont think I am alone in thinking this, but I am asking it.. Does anyone know why Dickey Betts didn't go to this benefit for Dan.. It is concerning to me as a fan.. they have played together for years with DBGS, ABB and Gregg Allman Band.. Dickey has gone to many benefits.. maybe he had other commitments?????
I am sure he has communicated in private to his friend, Dan.
I was disappointed that he didnt go to Red Dog's , although I know he was in communication with him..
I am just a curious fan.. if Dickey reads this ever or is told and is annoyed at me for bringing it up, I just think lots of folks what like to know , is all ...
We dig Danny :guitar:
We dig Betts for sure :guitarist:
Have a Blue Sky Day ...
Nic, "I am a better person from knowing Danny. He has helped me so much find God through Jesus Christ. When I was in the hospital and things were not looking to good he was Praying for me through text messages."
Probably answers a lot of questions.

June 14, 2002 is a day I will never forget. Pam & I had been in Boston on a work trip and we flew back into Dayton that day. I was so excited because DB&GS were headlining a Ribfest in Cincinnati and Dangerous Dan Toler was once again playing with Dickey. I had seen Danny perform many times over the years with DB&GS, the ABB and the GAB. He had actually become my favorite guitar player for a two plus decade period and I had my mind made up to try to talk to my guitar hero in Cincinnati.
When we landed in Dayton. We then headed straight to Cincinnati and saw our Good Friend Bud Schneider as well as Brother Dave, Kris Jensen and the rest of our favorite band members. Brother Dave helped us get under the stage cover during a rain storm that day as the gig was delayed for a while. Bud also told us he had lamanant backstage passes to give Pam & I. Still the Dangerous one was not available to chat with.
After the gig I saw Bill the bus driver and told him I had a custom made Allen Woody shirt to give Dickey. It was pouring rain once again. He let us on the bus and we waited on the band. Dickey and the band members were standing in the pouring rain signing stuff for the fans. Dickey came on the bus first and said hi to Pam & I. I told him I had a shirt for him and he indicated he was somewhat in a hurry. I gave Dickey the shirt and he was very moved when looking at it. I only had 5 of the shirts and one went to Dickey, one to Carlos I think, One to Derek Trucks, One to Rev. Tim and I kept one. Dickey came back a few minutes later and once again thanked me for the shirt. I gave Dickey several Duane Allman shirts over the years but I could tell this shirt he really dug as he did all the Duane Shirts.
Then my Guitar Hero the Dangerous one entered the bus. I stood up immediately and introduced myself and Pam to Danny. I ask him to sit next to us which he gracefully did. I then proceeded to tell him I had always wanted to thank him for something he had done. I told him I wanted to thank him for all the years he had helped keep the music of Brother Duane, Dickey Betts and Gregg Allman alive. I told him I very well remembered all the years of no ABB and by him touring with Gregg or Dickey he had helped me keep the torch lit for me. He looked me in the eye and said someting like "Brother I don't know what to say to you for such a compliment". He said "I am humbled by my comment". After chatting some more we hugged him and shook his hand upon departuring the bus.
The next night we once again hooked up at the Magic Bag in Ferndale Michigan for one of the best live shows we have ever heard. A cat named Scottie taped that show and I circulated it heavily.
So that is the story how Pam & I met Dangerous Dan Toler. We have become very close. Pam and I have been fortunate to be invited to the Toler Family reunions in Connvesvile Indiana. He is such a fine musician but a better person. I know no better person than Danny Toler. We wish him all the best and Love him very much. I am a better person from knowing Danny. He has helped me so much find God through Jesus Christ. When I was in the hospital and things were not looking to good he was Praying for me through text messages. Please say a Prayer and help Danny if you can. Peach.
:waving:Hey rajo. Go to you tube and do a search on Buddy Miles, Them Changes. Click on the first one w/ a pic of him sitting behind the drums. It's freakin' awesome.
Didn't know it, but he also does a version of Dreams and Midnight Rider on his Best Of cd. Them changes is just freakin' great. What a great groove, horns, phat bass. Great vocals too, just an awesome song all the way around.
Hey Tenn, whats that Band ? Couldnt find it
rajo
Hoping everyone is feeling fine today. The dog days of summer are usually worse than the doldrums of long, cold winters but today is a special day.
My dear friend, Rainy, sent me an incredibly loving and insightful PM today. I am so overwhelmed by her brilliance (as deep as her beauty). Today, I swear she was channeling the word of God Himself. I am so blessed in so many ways. Her friendship is one of the greatest blessings in my life.
Love you soooo much, dearest friend.
So, it's hot and humid and about to rain cats and dogs. But my work is done for today; it's time for a shower and get moving to commune with my "club members".
Love and prayers to all.
Special thoughts sent out to Nic, Rick and Danny. Y'all a great bunch! :dog:
Paulr - thanks so much for the review. Great that you got to see Sonny, but too bad he had to leave early. He's a great guy and a friend of mine from the ABB site also. I've never had the pleasure of meeting either of you in person. I've spoken to Sonny on the phone - really a good person and quite funny. Glad the benefit was a success! 😀
Thanks for the reviews PaulR and Brother Nic. Sounds like a good ol' time was had by all.
A little monday morning funk nasty, boogie music for everyone. This should be on every bands setlist to get the people shakin' it.

Great review Paulr. It was cool to chat with you today Brother.
We had a Goodtime at the county fair and the CDB show tonight. CDB sounded so fresh and really good. They are an outstanding Band. A special surprise tune for me was Saddle Tramp. Charlie spoke of the Veterans past, Current and future. Quite a bit said about the Military and their Families. Very nice show. He played a new tune on accoustic about the Servicemen, Servicewomen and their Families.
I got to chat with Taz before the show as he is a very cool Dude. It had been 10 years at a Volunteer Jam gig with DB&GS in St Louis since I had spoken with him. A very nice show for us tonight. Two of our Children and a Son-In-Law came along and really enjoyed it also. We spent a several hours at the fair prior to the show.
I hope you all have a Safe and Goodtime week. Peach.
paulr....awesome guy....very nice review...thanks
What a great turnout for Danny's benfit last night. There had to be easily over 500 people in the house and another 1or 200 milling around outside. We got there late and missed Frankie and Koch and company.. They came on at 4 and we just couldnt get there. : (
We spent most of the evening with our friend Sonny form the ABB site. Poor guy had to leave just as Dan was getting ready to come on. I sent him home with a handful of Dan recordings......Sonny is a great guy. Always there early and ready to help... always.
Ran into capn long enough to say hello.
On the way out we ran into Katie... some of you may remeber Mike Mahar's girlfriend. It was so good to see her. Looking foward to meeting up with her and Mike and the crew at Skippers in a few weeks.
Danny's set was mostly smoking renditions of some of our favorite Allman Brothers tunes. Hotlanta, Statesboro, Southbound, Midnite Rider/Mtn Jam tease/ Midnite rider, a Toler/Townsend Band tune or two, a smoking fiddle laced version of Fire On The Mountain, and then topped it off with a Whipping Post that shook the rafters.
In spite of this terrible affliction that has taken hold of our dear friend his spirit shines and the beautiful, joyful noise that plays from that mans soul still rings true in that old guitar and can still lighten the hardest heart.
Dan you have been a good friend to me and Heidi.
I love you buddy....
