Had an interesting flight home from Tampa last night. Mr. Betts was on my flight (although I admit I wasn't sure who he was at first). He came back to coach from 1st class to yell at one of his traveling companions sitting in the row behind me and hit me in the head with his elbow. He hit me pretty hard. An apology or an "excuse me" would have been nice, but he was so out of it I doubt he even realized he did it. The USAirways flight crew said absolutely nothing to him for the comotion he was causing. I know other airlines would not have tolerated it. For future travel he needs to be aware of his surroundings and not act that way. Love his music, but not his manners.

Duane was no choir boy, and had to be revived more than once if I recall correctly due to drug usage. Betts was there to help when needed one of the times, and even Gregg documented that he couldn't muster the energy to do so.
It is an interesting question as to what the band would have evolved into had Duane lived. Would Duane have gotten caught up in the excess of a successful ABB as the rest of the band did in 1973? What kind of direction would the music have taken? The band was already moving towards a "Betts" oriented style anyway since Dickey was doing more writing at the time of Duane's passing. Blue Sky was played by Duane, and the EAP album had of course Les Brers too (sans Duane).
What would have been interesting was what would the album after EAP looked like with Duane? Brothers and Sisters was a big deviation from prior ABB stuff. Would Jessica have emerged from the band with Duane? Just asking, we'll never know.
Fact is..........we're all judged everyday. You may not like it, but it doesn't change the fact.
Dickey and the ABB went to court and were judged. Dickey won.
Some people judge Dickey and all of his faults.
Some people judge Gregg and all of his faults.
The administrators judged Hemlock, Amy Regan, Duane69, prine1 to be a sh*t stirring sack of sh*t and booted him off the site and removed all of his posts. Yet, he comes back again :wall: .
The administrators judged me unworthy to drink the blue kool aid, a disturbance to the blue site "force", and had me banished to the playpen.
It's just the way it is.
prine1.......we all know how you feel about Dickey. Sorry sh*t stain, but some folks are finally seeing that Gregg ain't no angel either. You shoulda took him at his word when he sang those words, "I'm no Angel".
As far as the Dickey/gun to the head thing? I guess if you really love the person, you stand by them, try to get them help if they agree to it, and let the law take care of it. Obviously, they stood by him then didn't they? He wasn't fired then was he?
Brother Duane would have nothing to do with the crap on TV or any of the Hollywood jiveass drama or people.

Gregg will ALWAYS be a true Brother.
He may lie, may lack good judgement, may do this or say that..in other words, his Brotherhood status is not defined by his morals per se.
Is he credible is the more appropriate question. My opinion, no and somewhat walks a denial line in many aspects. A lot of truth, but, a lot of selective memory as well.
The question of would have Duane written a book. I would have to say no also, but for different reasons. In part, the allure of Gregg, nee the ABB as a whole has been, in part, the deaths of Duane and Oak. Combine that tragedy to the life of GA and his women, personal life, well that is book material that people will buy. Had Duane survived, the ABB would have looked completely different that how it evolved.

Welcome to Dickey and Great Southern back in Town! Tomorrow is Bethlehem, PA, Friday is Tarrytown, NY and Sat is going to be bigtime fun...Dickey and GS and NRPS together at the Rocks Ribs RIdges Festival with many other bands going on for 2 days in Vernon, NJ and Sun DB&GS playing back in CT! Wishing the Band, Crew, families and friends a great time up here and as Lana says "know that you are loved"...I love you guys and surround you with my love wish y'all a fun time!
