TennKev, c'mon down lotsa betts gigs here soon ( small ones 😉 ) NO MSG
Maybe type it out 5 more different ways, Wally? I feel at some point eventually 2 of your posts will be in agreement. Maybe it's just the different personalities coming out.
I've been on here raving about Tedeschi Trucks Band many times, too. I like Warren and Derek and Oteil, but the bottom line is I think that if they didn't think they could make as much or more money touring with their own bands now than with ABB, they wouldn't be "retiring" the ABB (ie. kicking the can to the curb). That Peach Mountain Music Festival show told me everything I needed to know about what was/ is happening to that band. They were holding back in order to not upstage their own solo bands. Do I like their solo music? Yes. Do I like Allman Mule Truck? Yes. Is or was Allman Mule Truck anything closely resembling the Allman Brothers Band without Dickey Betts? No. That's my point and nothing against anyone here or his perfectly justified opinion.
Warren Haynes has given over a HALF MILLION DOLLARS to Habitat For Humanity in Charlotte, NC, through his benefit performances, Jonesy. You are right about him all the way.
All excellent points Brothers Jonesy and Pinto. And no doubt that I have agreed with some of the things that Mary has said in the past. Some!!
Extremely cool story about Warren and your son.
Pintobean, you are entitled to your opinion. I am simply expressing mine.
Listen, there is no bigger Dickey fan than me. I was as frustrated as anybody when he was no longer in the band. I saw the current ABB a few times, and i enjoyed it but to me there was a hole in the sound simply because nobody has a tone like Dickey Betts and it gets in your bones when he's on.
One more thought on Warren Haynes. This guy is the salt of the earth. I have a young boy whom i took to see Govt Mule here in Las Vegas a few years ago. We saw Warren after the show purely by accident. Warren bent down low to look him in the eye and asked him how he liked the show. He then reached in his pocket and gave him his WH guitar pic. Freakin cool! my boy still cherishes it.
Warren was in the DBB band before joining the ABB so it was Dickey who got him into the band. Dickey has fostered many other players (Danny Toler of course) and aside from being a great guitar player, he has played different styles.
I share the same hope..that he keeps playing, and plays well.
All good points, Jonesy! Sorry if I seemed uncivil in my disagreements...certainly no disrespect intended. The truth is likely somewhere in between our variance. And in fact, I have seen AMT three times and do enjoy the music but to me it does not have the pep, the bounce, the passion it had with Betts. It's there in every phase of the band with Betts, but it stopped the day of the fax to these ears and this heart.
Well--I see the conversation is continuing. It was almost civil 🙂
The discussion about branding is an interesting one. Absolutely the ABB "brand" is what has sold tickets. DB and GS has been a "small venue" band since Dickey was ousted from the band in 2001. But let's factor in some other points here.
First--the Allman Brothers post Dickey have drawn strongly but by all accounts attendance was receding during this time frame. I honestly don't think it was because Dickey was no longer in the band (only the hard core fans paid attention and may have expressed an opinion), but rather declining number of shows and lack of new material was a factor. It's no mistake that Warren and Derek paid attention to their own bands, and rightfully so, there is a blatant difference in age here.
Pintobean I think your comment about their committment to the ABB is seen differently by me. Warren was totally committed to the ABB, and this incarnation of the band lasted longer than any other. Hard to bang on Warren and Derek.
Also--DB and GS was formed in 1976 or so. I saw them at Radio City Music Hall, the place sold out and they were great. That was at a time the ABB was very well known, and Dickey was the acknowledged guitar maestro. Didn't put him in Madison Square Garden though.
Even Gregg Allman, who had the Allman name to market, was playing dinky joints for years after the ABB broke up. The juice in music is royalties, and although i don't know it firsthand, i am sure Dickey is still reeping those rewards and will continue to.
By the way...hey there TennKev!
Somebody post that masculine pic of him in his fruity little underwear or whatever - ESPECIALLY with that fat gut hanging out! Wow, you must have no shame whatsoever to hang around after that image of you has been posted.
I ain't even gonna go there and make things worse around here. Lets talk about the cat in the hat.
Capn.........tell Dickey to put down the bow, pick up the guitar, and play some dates in the fall and winter.
:guitar:
Lil Baby Fruity Blob Whine....the guy with all the "friends".
I suspect Baby Whine might be a little light in the loafers, don't you, Kev?
Kinda like that pic they used to post of you around here, right, baby boy?
It's a little fruity, that's all I'm sayin'. 🙂
