Dickey’s music is alive and well!
Warren has changed bands for his Ashes and Dust tour enlisting Jeff Sipe of the Aquarium Rescue Unit on drums as well as Americana trio ChessBoxer. The Nashville-based ChessBoxer includes Matt Menefee on banjo, Ross Holmes on violin and Royal Masat on upright bass.
I listened to the first show (below) of this band configuration. Jeez Louise. The Blue Sky was just beautiful.
Throughout the ChessBoxer boys show their mastery. During the intros Warren says Matt Menefee does things with a banjo you shouldn’t be able to do with a banjo. The violin player shines all through the show but really shines on Jessica. You have never heard the Dickey Betts instrumental masterpiece played like this and I’d love to hear Dickey’s opinion. The violinist sounds like Warren on slide.
