Nic! Congratulations, brother! A well deserved retirement. Thank you for serving our country. I love you, sweetie!
AWWW, Nic your post made me cry. I usually dont post on Dickey's site much, but every few days I do come over and read the posts and I am so glad that today was one of those days!
I had the pleasure of meeting you and Pam at GABBA this year and remember it vividly. I had just gotten ready and was coming down in the elevator and it was just you and I. You had a Dickey Betts tshirt on so I asked are you here for GABBA and you said " Yes I am! , I'm Nic." and I said I am Marci but on the guestbook I am gapeach69 and you got this big grin on your face and said "Gapeach69, Give me a Hug!!!" And of course I DID! After we got off the elevator and walked out front, you introduced me to, Your sweet wife Pam, Sari and Carol (sistabluz). I had been really nervous bc even though I knew a lot of people that would be there, I had come alone, but after that moment, I knew I was in for some kind of weekend!!! LOL
I guess my point to that story is this, from the first moment I met you, I knew you were a special, a real sweetheart.
After reading your post today you reinforced what a precious person you are, I just had to say "it is an honor to know you sir. Thank you for your service to your country and helping me to remember today and everyday what the Armed services do to keep this country safe but also GREAT!"
I hope that your retirement is everything that you want and deserve it to be!! You and Pam go out and live it up!!! God bless you and your family, Marci
Nic...Thanks for sharing your letter and serving our great country! You inspire so many here with your kindness, dedication, genuineness, and positive attitude. Hope you enjoy your retirement because you have earned it brother!
Prayers sent to Doug , Claire and Lizzie..
Nic... I applaud :clapping: your devotion , dedication, service, respect, fortitude compassion, passion, LOVE, integrity , honor , truth and The American dream and for keeping a positive attitude in your helping to keep Americans safe.. a simple Thank You seems so ....small in comparison.. but it's all I have and I will say it a zillion times.. you come from a family of deep responsibilities and love of this country and have passed that onto your children..
I have been a member here on ABB/DB for 6 yrs.. but a fan for 41... and in finding this place , it has brought me to know you through the years and I have enjoyed reading about you and family and the Dickey Betts show you have gone too.. Also, through all your health issues, which I keep a prayer going and lots of positive energy flowing your way..
You have been blessed with finding Pam and having a wonderful life..,.,
God Bless you and family.. and enjoy your retirement , you have earned it over and over... Thank You once again and also to all our service men and women who are serving and who have served... Where would we all be with out your love , dedication.. ??
Which always brings me back to :dog: Joseph :inlove: keeping you in my heart and thoughts... always...
For those of you who know about my friends in Denver, Claire and Doug, prayers are needed that God takes him Home. There is not much of him left on this plane here anymore, anyway.
It's been 14 years of surgery, transplants, chemo, radiation, etc. Enough is enough.
Love to you all.
Nic - I seldomly come on here any more, but am glad that I picked this morning for a rare visit. Thanks for your service to our country, enjoy your retirement in continued good health, and look me up when you're over on this side of the Buckeye. Ciao.
Hey Now!! As some of you know I have worked for the Department of Defense for most of my career. Thursday will be my last day as I am retiring. I would like to share the message I sent out this morning. It should give you my prespective on how I feel about my Country.
Growing up as a young boy in Piqua Ohio, the home of Army Air Force Ace Don Gentile and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient USAF Para Rescue William Pitsenbarger, I never imagined I would have the opportunity to serve my country for nearly 33 years. My job has afforded me the opportunities to witness a speech by a US President, a Vice-President, a former Vice-President, an invitation to a U.S. Senator’s office and attend a Medal of Honor ceremony for that young Airman from Piqua. Having a Father who was highly decorated including the Bronze Star with a V for Valor and Heroism for his service during the Korean War, service to our Country was not only encouraged in our household but expected. Of the six of us children, four of us served in the U.S. Navy & U.S. Army totaling 32 years of active duty honorable service. The Nicodemus’s answered the call to service.
I have truly been blessed with a wonderful family, great friends, excellent co-workers and outstanding jobs opportunities. I have been fortunate to work in Building 5, Environmental Management and Civil Engineering. I am proud to say I work at Wright-Patterson AFB and have contributed to the installation’s mission in helping fight the global war on terrorism. At this point in my career my mission is complete and it is time to step aside and make a job for a younger person.
Thanks to all of you who have supported me and assisted me during my career with the U.S. Air Force. I’ve had excellent support from my CE Brothers and Sisters, U.S Army Corps of Engineer folks, 4950th Test Wing folks, contractors and facility users throughout the installation. Thank you to all our Veteran Servicemen and Servicewomen who have served our Great Nation previously or who are currently serving. Please remember to take a moment and say a Prayer for our deployed Servicemen, Servicewomen and their Families as they stand watch over us all. A special thanks to all who supported me during my times of illness. Your support is appreciated more than you will ever know.
A special thanks to my wife Pam and our children Scott, Jake & Sarah who have also continually supported me during my career. I could not have been successful without having them by my side and their continual support. I am extremely proud of my Daughter Sarah’s ongoing work and dedication to the Miami County “Relay For Life” annual events. The best thing that happened to me during my Federal career was meeting and marrying my wife Pam in 1974 while stationed in Jacksonville Florida.
I have been privileged to work with my immediate supervisor John Banford during the past four plus years. For six years prior to that John was my team leader and I have known him for over 15 years. John has taught me quite a lot about taking care of our most valuable asset, people. The Air Force could use many more supervisors such as John!
In closing my only advice to those I leave behind is to embrace each tasking, no matter how minimal it may seem at the time, and complete it to the best of your ability. It is end result of all those tasking that allows WPAFB to complete our mission and support the troops deployed in “Harms Way”. Thanks once again to all of you for all the Goodtimes. Take care of each other and be a Good Wingman, “Keep Em Flyin” and may God Bless America!!!!!
Hi All,
I want to send out my condolences to the family both near and far of J.J. Petty.
I don't know where to begin. J.J. became a brother of the road with us. We all went through a lot. He was always trying. Trying to do his best under some really trying conditions. Times like this you go through a a mental movie, a highlight reel of your time together. I laugh and cry at the same time.
J.J., brother, you will be missed. Last Sunday's jam (which was snowed out) was to be dedicated to you. The next one is.
Rest in peace.
Mark
