I guarantee they would be honored to play gratis.... just need some help with transportation expenxses... i'll ask them
Why don't you ask em if they're interested in playing for Red Dog - gratis (that means for free or cheapo expenses).
It appears the Allman Brothers Band (with the exception of Jaimoe who I believe will play IF he can play and believe me, I know NOTHING), is too busy for the guy that luggged their shit around for 30 years and supported them with his VA check for quite some time when they had NOTHING.
Liz and Rainy... Long Island Ladies.... luvya both for your words, sentiments and contributions....
Apologies to everyone for being AWOL, and to those awaiting Pedro's New CD... I promise to get them out today or tomorrow.. been a little rattled myself these daze, but the sun is peeking out and I get to see The Mike KAch Group with special guest Duane Betts Saturday...so I feel that good time feeling comin' 'round
I don't know what to call it - odd - or what why these guys (with the exception of Jaimoe) that no one was there for brother Red Dog. I don't know Rainy; I know he told you that Dickey called him but the guy in the know said he never called him back. Maybe Auggie was just saying that to make YOU feel better. The story changed - that he went and got sick, that he got invited and didn't go. I don't know what the truth is.
All I know is, and this is for DONNA who I know reads this forum, that it would be a real tribute to Auggie for Dickey to show up in Macon and play his ass off for another brother down. Dickey, in his own right, deserves a shot at a triumphant return to Macon and the people putting the show together would probably be pretty happy to have him.
I was too sick today to go to work but I still have to go to this interview and look and sound good and then off to the vet. How much can one girl take in a day. This is more than I can handle.
Its interesting, some of the perspectives here from folks.
In a mirror perspective to how Butch reacted when he saw RD in Macon....my question is exactly how would some folks react if they saw good 'ol Butchie at RD's memorial? Hmmmm....wonder what cutie Rainy for example feels about that potental sighting?
On the other hand, JJ is still my hero....would rather hear his Jasss Band than the Butch Trucks Band. Im actually laughing at the total potential of irony; Butch shows up, and the ABB plays a Betts tune. Cant make that shitt up folks...truth IS stranger than fiction.
"Love and good vibes to all. Don't let the bad Karma from Butch get you down. It's on him. It is upsetting to be sure, but it's not worth it to become like him."
About the wisest words I've read in a while. Thank you for them and hope you and Lizzie and Luke's daughter and anyone else I'm forgetting will all be feeling better soon.
GHANDI...that's exactly what the Mayor said !!!!! And that's exactly what Red Dog did..... add some CLASS!!
How many have seen Butch Trucks IN an interview talk about Berry Oakley? I have several times over the years and there is not a DOUBT in my mind that even Gregg Allman is hurt when he hears Butch talk that way.
I've read Butch saying in an interview that when Berry died it was a RELIEF!! It was a relief to the band in away because Berry Oakely just couldn't live in a world that didn't include Duane Allman. For months after Duane died, Berry Oakely was just in awful shape and more or less couldn't function. AND GET THIS!!! I read in an interview years ago and another in the last 15 years or so ago that Butch Trucks said Berry Oakely was in such bad shape over Duane and unable to function in a world that didn't include Duane Allman, that he (Butch Trucks) was ready to call a band meeting and suggest that they VOTE BERRY OUT OF THE BAND!!
If Butch were on the "yellow brick road" he would be one who was looking for the Wizard to give him a heart.
What does Butch mean by "relief"? That the band can now go on an hire a new bass player and put all this sorrow coming from Berry behind us and get back to playing music again? Does he mean it was a relief for Berry Oakely to not have to awake another morning in a world which does not include Duane Allman ..or both?
It's like Butch is thinking when he heard the news of Berry getting killed "thank god that is over".
There will never be two guitarist like Duane Allman and Dickey Betts that made the music magic which is the
Allman Brothers Band.
All the other configurations are great, talented and capable. But not, as Reddog said, magical.
Further, No one plays guitar like
Duane Allman in any capacity.
IMHO.
Yes I remember reading Red Dog posting just a month or so before he past away that Dickey and Donna called him on the phone an invited him down to their house in Florida but I think the Dog never got well enough to go. Not sure. But Red Dog did say that Dickey said Donna would cook him a good meal while he was there.
Also when the Big House/Allman Brothers Band Museum opened and they had the ribbon cutting with Gregg, Jaimo and Butch doing the honors, do you all remember the Dog posting that we WENT to the event and writing that "as soon as Butch saw me there, I could tell it pissed him off. But I got up there with them anyway and got my picture taken with them". And didn't the mayor a Macon say something about Red Dog being there at ribbon cutting time?
I tell you, The Red Dog did NOT let Butch Trucks intimidate him or anything. When the Dog wanted to go to the Big House, he went. Butch Trucks or no Butch Trucks!!
I am keeping Amy, Luke & Gina in my Prayers.
Hi Kitty. Good luck with the carpel tunnel. I had surgery on both hands 16 or so years ago and it has returned somewhat. I did get quite a bit of relief for awhile though.
Best wishes on the back Lizzie and the job and the Kitty. Peach.
Pastdreams,
Does it seem odd that with the exception of Jaimoe the rest of the originals have been silent concerning RD?
I think I had read that Dickey may have reached out in some way towards the end but don't know for sure..
The fuse interview is an example of what Butch should have been giving all these years... positive about the current band & a little reminiscant of the past.
Don't y'all think it would be wonderful if Dickey were to play at Red Dog's memorial in Macon on April 22?
Plans are in the making and the thought occurred to me that since RD lost his job because of his support of Dickey and because RD left this world on good terms with his brother, it would be fitting to have him show his "brother" Butch what brotherhood really means.
No matter how you see BT..., he sees himself as an "18 year old Superman."

Rainy - I'm doing OK so far with the splint for my carpal tunnel. Only time will tell if I'll need surgery. My neck and back have arthritis as well as my right hand (not the hand with carpal tunnel). I'll be getting cortisone injections next month. They seem to help. Thanks for your sisterly love. It is greatly appreciated. :angel2:
Lizzie - hope each day is better than the last.
Love and good vibes to all. Don't let the bad Karma from Butch get you down. It's on him. It is upsetting to be sure, but it's not worth it to become like him.
Hey Stone Cold and hey to everybody else too.
((((Continued healing vibes to Amy, Dream Lady, Kimberly, Pam, and anyone else that be needin' 'um))))
Also thoughts, prayers, and good news vibes to Brother Nic for the upcoming tests.
Thanks for the video Brother Tyler:dance:. Good to see Warren and the Futhur gang playing one of the greatest songs ever created.
Looks like yesterday was a whole lot of fun around here. Blasting away at people who think they know all but know little is one of my "character defects" but I do it well. Goodness, it was a good thing I was in the hospital or I would've said things I would have regretted (oh yeah, Rick, I post and delete ALL the time).
Luke, so good to hear your voice. Love you back and hoping Amy is less tearful. I can't imagine her pain.
As far as pain goes, I don't have any - in fact, I can't feel a thing. I'm just numb and woozy from that anesthesia. Thought I'd get a "freebie" high but once the tube went it, it was a half hour later! The recovery room was not fun - had trouble breathing and an awful headache. Today I am supposed to just take it easy.
Have call back interview tomorrow and don't have the energy to worry about it.
Fat Cat Moonie has lost a couple of pounds - shoot, back to the vet. I just lost Pooty - hoping it's just his thyroid. I couldn't take another loss like that right now. This little grey and white guy is my loverboy and has been for 11 years. He's been through hell and high water with me...
Hey Stone. I hope you are doing well Brother. Peach.
Just dropped in to Say Hi to everyone
