I have been trying to figure out what to post since I founfd out. I am at a loss for words.I had a great on line relationship with Buppalo1 over the years and I have always considered him a friend. I will miss him very much. RIP friend.
Dan
BTW, I am not unemployed as a journalist. I spent the last five years working as an office manager for a physician (a nice normal job). I am now disabled as a result of a domestic violence situation that I just escaped by the skin of my teeth.
Also, I quit my last job at the Associated Press as a personal choice. I just could not take any more of living through wars, politics, famines, tsunamis, revolutions, earthquakes, assassinations, etc 24/7. 30 years of that was enough for me.
Rainy, thank you for bringing the news of Buppalo's passing to Dickey's site. It is sad indeed. He was one of the sweetest men I have ever met.
Walter, I know this is not a political blog but I have seen so many people post their political opinions, I just thought I'd put in my two cents. I am sorry if any of it offended you. I did not intend any of it to be offensive, least of all taken as a racial slur.
From now on, I will keep my opinions on politics to myself. This is not the appropriate forum. The last thing I want to do is stir up any bad feelings so I hope we can just be fans of Dickey and part of the brother/sisterhood we have here. I send you my heartfelt apology to you and to anyone else I might have offended. Think I'll just stick to the music. Peach.
🙁 this was posted over on the ABB site late last night 9/3/12 thought I would post here as some brothers and sisters may not visit over on the ABB site and Randy was well known and respected by many who knew him. I was lucky to have met him at the NY Beacon in 07'..
From Lefty,
I have some terrible news to share, with you tonight.
I have found out that Randy Stephens, (Buppalo1) has passed away tonight.
I don't have all the details but I do know it was sudden and even his closest friends did not know he was in the hospital until today ..
One of his friends saw him today at 1pm and he was weak but seemed fine.
Lee Ann and her friend Sammye, a long time friend of Randy, and some family and friends were at his side when he passed.
Please keep all of his loved ones in your thoughts..
I am one the road right now but as I learn More I will share it with you..
RIP my dear ffriend
:dog:  :inlove:
pintobean... no offense but it is pretty obvious that you have never been the subject of a racial slur... if you find what DL said was that offensive then you are right we should not discuss politics with you...

Just voicing my opinion, Walter, like everyone else. I am a journalist so I am very well informed. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Please don't equate me with Mr. Prine. I do not bash people who disagree with me and I am surely not rude and cruel.
DL, you are misinformed and should get the truth.
Quite a dissertation there, Bluedaddy.
I'm voting for Obama. Mitt has no clue what it's like to be a working class American who has to use a credit card to go on vacation or buy a new television. We don't have Swiss bank accounts or hide our money in the Cayman Islands. We don't own million dollars businesses. We're lucky if we have a job. He can't relate to the majority of us at all.
Bush Sr. got us into major debt and a war. Clinton got us a huge surplus with his two terms. Bush Jr. threw that surplus away in one term and got us into two wars. Obama needs another term to clean up Dubya's mess. I don't trust Mitt. He's a plastic man with a million dollar businesses and a wife whose children were born through invitro fertilization; a woman's right that Mitt will most certainly put a stop to along with the right to choose whether we want children or not.
It's all about money in the end, though. Remember, we went to war with Iraq because "there aren't any good targets in Afghanistan" (except maybe Bin Laden). We got him alright; as an afterthought. We went after Sadaam who, granted, was not a nice guy but he didn't fly four planes full of Americans to their fiery deaths. And Dick Cheney's Halliburton made a fortune going to war with Iraq. There wasn't any money in going after Bin Laden.
All the Republicans and the Tea Party people want is to keep us in our place and fatten their wallets. We don't matter much.
Just keep that surplus that Clinton created in mind and the fact that every Republican administration has gotten us into debt and into wars. They're best buddies with the money mongers in the middle east. On 9/11, there were no planes flying except the ones taking the Bin Laden and Saudi friends back home. I think it's as simple as that.
"hi,Rosy.Lucy...cappucino please....met friends......thanks...mmmhh.... radio..waiting on a record.......guinness?....no,thanks.ah,cola.....cheers."
If anybody wants some fresh new southern rock music performed as well as any of the original stuff we grew up with try the new Blackberry Smoke cd, The Whippoorwill. These guys are terrific!
Bluedad, they are having a free fall series of concerts down there. I'll get you some info. I still owe you some Jupiter Coyote music. I procrastinate but don't forget. Probably send both to you tomorrow. Hope you'll pass my best regards along to BDOB. Best to him - even BETTER to you, a man of true class and character. BTW, I do love the Barry Richmond stuff! That guy has motorized fingers.
Bluedad, my wife and I saw Randall Bramblett here in Columbia back in the spring and it was an excellent performance. Word is he liked Columbia and our little Riverfront Amphitheater so much ha asked if he could come back next year!
Hey Walter...I remember that one. I was sitting between you and the wife !!! ColaTown really needs to promote that place with some regional touring acts....:) I would go back for the right band(s) and a cover charge in a heartbeat....
Jim, again we agree! I vote for Pedro and you for VP - Vice Pedro.
"rosy,hi...late ,I know..weekend....yes,alone of course..went through some of my favorites,ended up with Metallica,St.Anger...no,wrong cover..."
myself, I don't see either party representing the majority of Americans very well. One particularly obvious perspective is how the interests of the wealthy and those who own the vast majority of stocks are protected relative to those who earn a living from a paycheck. Gotta understand that the notions or claims behind 'trickle-down economics' are bullshit amongst economics and unsupported by past history.
Romney would like folks to believe that running a company is an appropriate background for a politician. It sure looks to me that Romney himself doesn't understand, or recognize the distinction.
A corporation is to make money for its owners (you're welcome to believe that we're America's 'owners' if it makes you feel better about some unshakeable belief you might have in GOP talking points).
A government is to create and maintain a structure in which we can all live according to a set of agreed-upon rules that make its constituents lives better.
A corporation strives to make a profit. If profit expectations for a particular business are 10%, the prices (taxes in the case of a government) have to be that much higher than if profits were not in the equation. Think about that in the context of health care, where unlike most other countries, there are several layers of for-profit companies that are each pricing their services to produce a profit.
I find very few folks interested enough to take the time to understand the areas politicians focus on in campaigns, let alone actively challenge the factual basis of their claims. This extends to reporters and media in general as well.
